Long Table Distillery’s Långbord Akvavit is Awarded First Place By Sip Northwest.
The magazine’s 2016 “Best in the Northwest” issue is now hitting newsstands with the announcement of this year’s winners for the region’s top spirits. Long Table Distillery, Vancouver’s first micro-distillery and craft distillers of international award winning small batch gins and seasonal spirits, took first place for their Långbord Akvavit in the ‘Best Specialty Spirit’ category, beating out entries from Pacific Northwest distilleries in both Canadian and US.
Already a Silver Award winner at last year’s accredited World Spirits Competition in San Francisco, Long Table Distillery’s Owner and Distiller Charles Tremewen noted “Our Långbord Akvavit has received wide spread acceptance from the bartending community in Vancouver and Scandinavians. We know that Akvavit (aquavit) is a traditional Scandinavian staple but we had no idea that this spirit we love so much, would have such a resurgence and widespread appeal in cocktails.”
The unique combination of caraway, fennel and star anise botanicals that dominate the spirit, offer a licoricey forward note that’s mellowed by the orange and remaining botanicals added to produce what they refer to as a “more Swedish styled spirit”. Tremewen went on to say, “This often thought of Fall time and New Year’s celebrative spirit now has found a place in back bars to be enjoyed all year round.”
Long Table’s Långbord Akvavit is always available through their Distillery tasting room at 1451 Hornby Street in North False Creek, Vancouver, at select private liquor stores and by special order through the BC Government Liquor Stores. The spirit is also available in Alberta at select stores.
