Suspense Is Brewing for Vancouver’s Biggest Annual Craft Beer Celebration

Vancouver Craft Beer Week Announces Complete Calendar of Events for 2017 Festival

Craft beer aficionados eagerly anticipating the kickoff of the eighth annual Vancouver Craft Beer Week on May 26, 2017 can now preview the exciting events to come on the festival’s newly launched website. Enthusiasts can drink in the details of each legendary beer event happening across Metro Vancouver from May 26 to June 4 at vancouvercraftbeerweek.com. Signature VCBW events take place at a variety of venues throughout the week with festivities culminating at the historic PNE fairgrounds on June 3 and 4 featuring live music, food, art, and 100 craft breweries and cideries pouring the largest craft beer and cider selection of any festival in Canada.

This year’s 10-day celebration showcases eight Vancouver Craft Beer Week signature events leading up to the spotlighted VCBW Festival that cap off the celebrations on June 3 and 4. The complete VCBW 2017 calendar sees a few new events added to the mix alongside returning fan favourites:

VCBW Opening Night | Friday, May 26, 2017 | Roundhouse | $49

Raise a glass as Vancouver Craft Beer Week begins its eighth year with music, food, beer, and art. 20 of the province’s best breweries and cideries will be pouring over 40 different beers and ciders while singer Mark Woodyard performs.

Collaboration Tap Takeover | Saturday, May 27, 2017 | Big Rock Urban Brewery & Eatery | $49

Spend the afternoon tasting collaboration brews from Ravens, Bridge, Four Winds, Steel & Oak, Bomber, Persephone, Red Racer, Powell Street, Twin Sails, Field House, Callister, Dogwood, and many more breweries. Each ticket includes beer samples, live entertainment, beer-inspired canapés, a brewery tour, and an opportunity to vote for the best collaboration.

Feats of Strength | Sunday, May 28, 2017 | The Cobalt | $10 in advance ($20 at the door)

Watch brewing professionals, novices, and enthusiasts compete in push-up competitions, The Growler-tearing, keg-stacking, and maybe even some shirtless totem-poling. Sample Copper & Theory Artisan Beer Supply Co.’s hand-picked, outrageously decadent, and somewhat nerdy beer list while revelling in the glory of the Feats of Strength spectacle.

Biercraft Belgian Showcase | Monday, May 29, 2017 | BierCraft Cambie | $80

A VCBW original event, the Belgian Beer Showcase at BierCraft Bistro honours the great craft-brewing tradition of Belgium. This event features a wide cross section of Belgian beer styles from the old world and the new. Taste 15 beers and learn the history behind each brewing method while enjoying thoughtfully prepared bites (vegetarian options are available).

Forbidden Fruit | Tuesday, May 30, 2017 | Devil’s Elbow Ale House | $40

An homage to the extremely popular Portland Fruit Beer Festival, this event features fruit beers, fruit wheat beers, Belgians, and sours from 20 B.C. craft breweries. Every spring and summer, brewers add unique flavour profiles to their traditional ales, and this event provides the opportunity to try the best examples of these B.C. beers under one roof.

Rose City Rampage | Wednesday, May 31, 2017 | Portland Craft | $60

For the past 5 years VCBW has brought the best beers of Portland, Oregon, to Vancouver. This event is an opportunity to sample 16 one-of-a-kind brews and chat with their makers without crossing the border. Showcasing the most exciting breweries Rose City has to offer, tickets for this event are anticipated to sell out quickly.

IP-Hazy Whole Hog Cookout and Crawfish Boil | Thursday, June 1, 2017 | Lamplighter | $49

The Lamplighter’s first ever Whole Hog Cookout and Crawfish Boil is the biggest food and beer signature event of VCBW 2017. While a massive pot of spicy crawfish and vegetables boil, an entire pig will be roasting on the patio. Taste through a selection of the haziest India Pale Ales from Northwest Pale Ale to Milkshake brews.

VMF Meets VCBW | Friday, June 2, 2017 | Vancouver Mural Festival Headquarters | $20

Celebrate Vancouver’s dynamic art and beer scenes with a behind-the-curtain glimpse into the shared Vancouver Mural Festival and Vancouver Craft Beer Week headquarters. Tickets for this mixer, complete with DJs and local craft beer, are extremely limited.

VCBW Beer Festival | Saturday, June 3 and Sunday June 4, 2017 | PNE Fairgrounds| $39.99

The eighth annual Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival is back at the historic PNE Fairgrounds on June 3 and 4 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, featuring 100 craft breweries and cideries pouring more than 300 beers and ciders. In addition to Canada’s largest selection of craft beer and cider offered in one place, the VCBW Festival features art installations, live music, DJs, food trucks, market stalls, brewing demonstrations, a games area with pinball and foosball, a pop-up barber shop, and more. Named ‘Vancouver’s Best Beer Event’ (Georgia Straight Golden Plates, 2013–2017) and ‘Social Event of the Year’ (2016 Golden Owl Awards), VCBW’s main event is sure to sell out. Tickets include two drink tokens (more can be purchased at the festival for $1.50 each) and a 4 oz. souvenir taster mug.

Committed to ensuring that craft beer is promoted and enjoyed responsibly by adults, attendees of all Vancouver Craft Beer Week 2017 events must be 19+ years of age and provide two pieces of ID to enter. Serving It Right rules apply—attendees are reminded to drink responsibly and plan a safe ride home. For more information about the festival and to purchase tickets, visit vancouvercraftbeerweek.com.
