Vancouver’s Windfall Cider launches Hail Mary – a Rosé Cider

Windfall Cider, Vancouver’s urban cidery, launches its second flagship release with Hail Mary, a rosé cider. Patio, sunshine, and good company personified in a can, Hail Mary features a delicate blend of BC apples and ripe berries with notes of apple, rose petal, and green melon on the palate.

“With our inaugural release last year, Jackpot, we wanted to go classic with a dry cider that hit all the right notes of crispness and that paired well with food,” explains Nathaly Nairn, co-founder of Windfall Cider with her husband Jeff Nairn.“Since then, we have continued to experiment with new flavours and wanted to create something that still used old-world cidermaking techniques with a modern approach. Rosé wine is an extremely popular drink category, and we thought, why not a modern rosé cider? That’s how Windfall Hail Mary was born.”

Hail Mary is a bright, dry rosé cider that pairs well with Mediterranean food, grilled meats, BBQ, and roasted chicken. It is meant to be sipped with friends on a warm, sunny evening, and enjoyed with a meal.

Windfall Cider Hail MaryThe beautiful blushed-coloured can is designed by Philadelphia-based illustrator Armando Veve under the creative direction of Vancouver’s 123 West Communications. The playful illustration is meant to characterize the whimsy of the journey that Jeff and Nathaly took in creating Windfall Cider.

“The reason that we love craft cider is not only because of its heritage but also the flexibility it provides. We’re working with local bartenders to develop seasonal cocktail recipes featuring Windfall Cider and more. We want to see Cider not only as a summer drink but as a year-round staple,” adds Jeff.

Jeff and Nathaly work closely with community farmers to find the best apples for their ciders. For Hail Mary, the couple aimed for balance, fermenting a blend of McIntosh, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Spartan, and eight other varietals along with Western Canadian Saskatoon Berries for their spectacular colour, tart flavour, and tannins.

Windfall’s Hail Mary rosé cider (437mL 7.0% ALC./VOL.) is currently available at select local restaurants and in private liquor stores across BC. For more information, please visit www.windfallcider.ca

About Windfall Cidery
After first falling in love with each other, and then with Spanish cider on a trip to Mexico city, Jeff Nairn – a financial services professional – and Nathaly Nairn – a longtime luxury hospitality veteran – turned a years long hobby of cider making into what became Windfall Cider, Vancouver’s urban cidery.Learning what they could from old-world techniques passed down by generations of cider makers, Jeff and Nathaly experiment with as many new flavours as they can find. All until the cider is just right – and totally different than anything else in BC, all while staying close to their roots and using Pacific North West inputs.Windfallcider.ca | Instagram: @windfallcider | Facebook: windfallcidercompany
