We’re looking forward to the start of our 2019 harvest here at CheckMate. The growing season has been cool and dry, with lower yields anticipated. Late Summer warmth in August has promoted ripening and we are pressing our first Chardonnay from Border Vista Vineyard today! The lower yields should provide great concentrated fruit character to the wines of the 2019 vintage. We invite you to visit the winery this harvest season, we are open daily through November 11th.

Chardonnay
This wine has essences of citrus peel and white peach combined with tropical, floral notes, as well as wet stone. The palate has generous fruit flavours, layered mid-palate richness and focused acidity providing a long textured finish. 92 pts Wine Spectator
Chardonnay
Winemaking and foudre combine to impart aromas of the seashore with wet stones, flint and Asian spices on the nose combined with a tropical lift. The palate has a zesty entry, with a hint of richness and minerals followed by a lingering flavour of lychee, ginger, spice and saltwater. The natural ferment contributes a lifted, aromatic, complex nose. The palate opens with apple, mandarin, spice and creamy stone fruits yet remains delicate with a long finish. 94 pts Schreiner, 93 pts Tasting Panel
Chardonnay
Deep, rocky soils and old, gnarly vines (planted in the early 1970’s) combine to create a wine with an intense bouquet of passion fruit, papaya and lemon blossom. The palate explodes in the mouth, being round and fleshy, yet silky all at the same time. 94 pts Wine Enthusiast
