The Dance Centre presents the Discover Dance! series
Vancouver Pars National Ballet
Iranian traditional and folkloric dances
The Dance Centre’s popular Discover Dance! series features the vibrant beauty of Iranian traditional and folkloric dances, with a performance by the Vancouver Pars National Ballet. The company is highly regarded for its work preserving Iranian culture through folk and traditional dances, as well as new creations. A whirlwind of movement, intoxicating music, and colourful costumes, the program will include dances from some of the many regions, ethnic groups and cultures of Iran.
Vancouver Pars National Ballet was founded in 1989 by Azita Sahbjam, who had trained and performed with the Pars National Ballet in Tehran. After the Iranian revolution dance was no longer permitted in Iran, and Azita emigrated to Canada, where she has continued to share her passion for dance and the preservation of Iranian folk dances. The company performs regularly in the Greater Vancouver region, and has also toured across Canada, and to the US, Europe, and China.
