Air Canada names Vancouver’s ¿CóMO? Taperia #2 in Canada’s Best New Restaurants list in enRoute Magazine

¿CóMO? Taperia (201 E 7th Ave), Vancouver’s destination for authentic Spanish tapas and drinks, was just named #2 in Canada’s Best New Restaurants list in enRoute magazine.

“To be named as one of Canada’s best new restaurants is definitely something we couldn’t have anticipated,” says Shaun Layton, who opened ¿CóMO? Taperia last year alongside fellow industry veterans Frankie Harrington and Justin Witcher. “All we wanted to do was give Vancouver a little piece of Spain we love so much. Where people can enjoy popular Spanish drinks and creative, yet, simple tapas together in an intimate space with fun and great hospitality. It’s an incredible honour.”

¿CóMO? Taperia opened in December of 2018 in the Mount Pleasant and quickly gained in popularity through word-of-mouth with locals and travellers alike, especially guests hailing from Spain.

From Canada’s Best New Restaurants shortlist write-up:
Como Taperia Pours of on-tap vermouth and sherry zip by at warp speed as servers strive to keep up with the thirsty crowd at this jumping Mount Pleasant watering hole. Salty, addictive, traditional small plates of Madrid and Barcelona range from canned conservas (razor clams served with imported potato chips and Catalan Espinaler hot sauce) to whipped potatoes with a crispy-edged deep-fried egg (yolk still molten), finished with a bright orange slick of chorizo and pimentón. Still thirsty? Wash it down with a Bereziartua Basque cider, poured from on high in the flamboyant manner of the region.

Currently, Layton, Harrington, and Witcher are in Toronto at the Canada’s Best New Restaurants event, celebrating with fellow industry members and presenting media and guests with a specially created tapa called the Gilda Estupendo. The ¿CóMO? Taperia Gilda features anchovies, octopus, olives, Guindilla pepper, Shishito pepper, onion, jamon, Mijgas, and maple. It is traditionally known to be named after Rita Hayworth’s character in the classic Gilda film.

Canada’s Best New Restaurants 2019 highlights the top restaurants that have opened across the country over the last 12 months and deliver exceptional experiences through the quality of their food, level of service and commitment to culinary creativity.
