2017 Viognier

From an east-facing vineyard block in Osoyoos, this Viognier captures the opulent ripeness of the Okanagan Desert with the retained freshness of the vineyard’s cooler afternoons. Fermentation was by indigenous yeasts, with a portion aged in oak cask, to build complexity without overt aromatics.

This rich, full-bodied Okanagan red is a tribute to the art of the blend. The 2016 edition features twelve labels, each with a different photograph by local artist, Lionel Trudel. The photos were taken at our estate vineyards and shot in the iconic “Chiaroscuro” style, literally meaning light-dark.

The 2016 Becker Vineyard Cuvée is a Merlot dominant blend, and is a true expression both of this historic vineyard and the 2016 vintage.

Phantom Creek

Established in 1996 by pioneering viticulturist Richard Cleave, Phantom Creek Vineyard is consistently recognized for producing some of the best red wines in Canada. And its tiny acreage is in sharp contrast to its ability to produce powerful, opulent wines.

Located on the lower terrace of the southwest-facing Black Sage Bench, it sits just above the valley floor, ensuring full access to the warm afternoon sun. Its well-draining sandy soils were caused by streams that slowly deposited nutrient-rich sediment over thousands of years.

Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (clones 169, 15, 191), Syrah, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Merlot

Led by renowned viticulturist Helmut Becker, over 30 different grape varieties were specifically planted at (what’s now) Becker Vineyard as a demonstration that traditional European vines could survive in British Columbia. And not only did they survive—they thrived.
