MILA Opens September 19, Setting the Bar for Plant-based Dining

Vancouver residents can soon indulge in pioneering plant-based fare when MILA opens in historic Chinatown on Saturday, September 19. The innovative eatery transcends borders and cultures to capture the universal excitement, warmth and connection of dining together – all while serving tantalizing fare made with ingredients that support a healthy planet.

Sister restaurant to the award-winning Virtuous Pie, MILA is situated between Keefer and Main Street, with seats for 100 people (upon opening, the restaurant will operate with up to 82 seats to adhere to COVID-19 safety measures). The menu – developed by Red Seal Chef Jim Vesal – boasts global dishes with Asian influences that nods to the surrounding neighbourhood, appealing to diners with all types of dietary preferences and restrictions – not just vegans and vegetarians. The cocktail menu is equally alluring, marrying bold and boozy originals with light and refreshing alternatives.

MILA is now accepting reservations, with eager visitors able to book up to one week in advance; reservations are highly recommended as walk-in availability will be limited. Dine-in will be offered starting September 19, with takeout and delivery options announced at a later date. MILA’s opening hours are Sunday to Thursday, 5pm to 10pm, and Friday and Saturday, 5pm to 11pm. As per government guidelines, the restaurant will not serve alcohol past 10pm on weekends; however, the kitchen will remain open.

As an added incentive for diners to drop by during opening week, MILA is debuting a “dine and donate” initiative with 5% of sales donated to Pivot Legal Society. Pivot works in partnership with communities affected by poverty and social exclusion to identify priorities and develop solutions to complex human rights issues. Their work is focused in four policy areas: police accountability, drug policy, homelessness, and sex workers’ rights.
