MILA Bites Into the Brunch Scene — Launching Saturday, January 23

MILA Bites Into the Brunch Scene

The popular new plant-based restaurant kicks off the year with the launch of a brand-new brunch program.

After opening their doors in September for dinner, MILA has won over the hearts (and stomachs) of Vancouverites, winning Best New Restaurant in 2020 in the Georgia Straight’s Readers’ Choice Awards. Since opening, MILA has expanded their offerings to include lunch and happy hour, and are now introducing brunch. Launching this Saturday, January 23, the brunch menu will include some classic plant-based favourites, along with some wild cards.

“Our goal with our brunch menu was to utilize the flavour profiles that our guests have come to know and love, in breakfast dishes,” says Breanne Smart, Head Chef. “We’re really excited to show the city what we’ve been working on these past few months. The dish I’m most excited for everyone to try is the Smoked Lox Benedict – it borrows the flavours from our popular Aburi Lox Oshi, a traditional Bagel & Lox, and a classic hollandaise.”

Guests can expect two plant-based benedicts, including a gluten free ‘crab cake’ benedict made with avocado, tofu egg, and hollandaise, Asian-inspired Breakfast Bao Buns, and PB + J waffles to satisfy those with a sweet tooth. “We got to partner with a fantastic handful of local vegan Vancouver vendors for this launch,” says Smart. “Yoggu, East Van Jam, Tempea, and TMRW Foods products highlight our dishes, such as the Yogurt Bowl, Jam + Ricotta Toast, and Tempeh Rib Hash.”

The brunch menu will also feature an extensive cocktail list, designed by MILA’s talented bar manager, Alex Tognazzi. “I’m extremely passionate about pushing the envelope and coming up with new and exciting ideas,” says Tognazzi. One look at his creations and you’ll see he’s done just that. Enter The Dragon is MILA’s brunch Caesar with a twist – of Sake, that is. It features Absolut Vodka, Sake, a tower of assorted pickled vegetables, and an Asian Caesar mix infused with soy, miso, and wasabi. Other standouts include The Kohaku River, a vibrant pink that owes its hue to the muddled dragon fruit, and a Mimosa Flight four ways, including a strawberry and lychee flavour.

Since opening last fall, MILA has received consistent praise for the health + safety precautions in place at the restaurant. MILA continues to follow provincial health orders to ensure both the guests and team feel safe and comfortable in the space. For those who would prefer to dine at home, brunch will be available for takeout and delivery through DoorDash, Uber Eats, and SkipTheDishes.
