Flavour Profile
Our Rosé is a blend of 100% estate grown Syrah and Merlot; this Rosé is complex and dry with a very pale salmon colour. A lingering nose of candied strawberry and gooseberry followed by peach and apricot notes. The palate shows fresh berry and tangerine with hints of lime enhancing the long, clean, crisp mineral finish.
Growing Conditions
The 2020 growing season started well with great weather conditions throughout April. May and June experienced somewhat cool, wet conditions which slowed growth, disrupting some spring bud development and challenging the short period of flowering thereby reducing crop load in the vineyard. July and August provided consistent sunshine, high heat and a few timely rainy days. September to mid-October continued with very warm weather allowing the fruit to reach full maturity and ripeness. While the Growing Degree Days at Vanessa Vineyard for 2020 were at 1678, which was slightly lower than in 2019 at 1687 the overall outcome was a fantastic growing season. This vintage of wines is proving to be very age-worthy and shows incredible potential.
Winemaking
Crafted from only 100% estate grown and hand-picked fruit. The Rosé harvest is one of the most exciting times
at Vanessa Vineyard, as it is the beginning of our harvest and the team is eager to pick. Our goal this year was to produce a light, delicate and pale colour for our 2020 Rosé, so we were attentive to have minimal extraction from the skins. Whole cluster pressed, chilled and fermented slowly in stainless steel tanks with a proprietary yeast selection. Our Rosé has been made at cool temperatures to fully enhance the fruit`. Delicate colour, aromas and flavours reminiscent of southern France embody the 2020 vintage.

Carved from stone, fuelled by sun, a vineyard like no other
Vanessa Vineyard is located in one of the finest wine regions in Canada and is dedicated to producing wine that is true to the heritage of its terroir. Situated on the hillside overlooking the Similkameen Valley, Vanessa Vineyard grows its grapes on 75 acres of sloping, well drained rocky terrain. The vines grow in rows of rock, stressing the plants while absorbing the day heat and imparting that warmth during the cooler nights, contributing to the grapes’ unique character.
