Desi Indian Lounge Executive Chef Bal Ajagaonkar is showcasing an exclusive Canada Day Prix-Fixe Menu on Wednesday., July 1st at the popular dining destination centrally located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver at 1355 Hornby St.
The four-course feast starts with Rasam, a tangy, spiced soup made from lentil broth and tamarind and blended with South Indian spices, and continues with a second-course choice of Lotus Root & Avocado Chat or Cochin Cauliflower Bites, a Main course selection of Konkani Prawns, Lamb Pasanda or Anjeer and Akrod Kofta Nuts, and a Dessert choice of either Rasmalai Rosset or Motichur Cheesecake.
The prix-fixe menu is available for $45 per person plus tax and gratuity, with optional pairings featuring local British Columbia wines available for an additional $20. Guests can also toast Canada Day with the limited-time Maple Sour, crafted with Crown Royal whisky, pure maple syrup, fresh citrus, aromatic bitters, and a star anise garnish. Prix-fixe menu items will also be available to order on an à-la-carte basis, with Desi’s regular menu offered throughout the day.

Beyond the Canada Day Prix-Fixe menu, Ajagaonkar has also added new items to the à-la-carte menu available daily for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to late that showcases local ingredients, exotic flavours and uniquely regional Indian inspiration in such appetizers as Bombay Pomfret Fry (semolina-coated whole fish, fried with Bombay spices) and Samosa Kale Chat (samosa, chickpeas, chutney, silky yogurt, crispy kale, crunchy shev), Tandoori specialties like BC Organic Portobello Mushroom (tandoori spices, yogurt, stuffed jackfruit mix)and BC Coho Salmon (tandoori spices, green chutney), Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian Curry dishes that include Lamb Madras (lamb cooked in coconut sauce with Madras spice and tamarind essence) as well as Indian Breads, sides, desserts and more.
Desi Indian Lounge is also featuring a Summer Tasting Menu that showcases such inspired East-by-way-of-West-Coast dishes as Asparagus Shorba, Tandoori Brussels Sprouts, Tamarind Sablefish, Cornish Hen and a Golden Beet & Paan Mousse available exclusively for 6 p.m. seatings Thursdays to Saturdays for $75 per person plus tax and gratuity with optional wine pairings also available for an additional $30++.
Ajagaonkar, who was born in the coastal town of Malvan in Western India and trained in luxury hotel kitchens and alongside Michelin-recognized chefs internationally, brings a disciplined, technique-driven approach to Desi’s kitchen. His cooking balances regional authenticity with refined plating and layered spice work favouring clarity, depth and harmony over excess.
