CULINARY CREATORS: FABLE DINER & BAR HOSTS POP-UP ART SHOW AND SALE
FOR LOCAL HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY TALENTS ON FEB. 22nd

One-Night-Only Event Brings Together Front- and Back-of-House Artists,
Painters, Printmakers to Showcase Works at Downtown Destination

Fable Diner & Bar is providing a showcase for a number of talented artists and creators who work in the local restaurant industry by hosting a one-night-only Pop-up Art Show + Sale on Sunday, Feb. 22nd at the Downtown Vancouver destination (755 Richards St.).

The free, all-ages exhibition, which takes centre stage on the restaurant’s lower level from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., will showcase the works of budding and established artists who also work in back- and front-of-house roles at establishments around Greater Vancouver and include photographer & painter Kenta Takahashi (Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar), printmaker Harrison Bryk (Italian Kitchen), painter Steven G. (Local Harvest Market), piñata maker Meaghan Kennedy (Nook Denman), painter Lauren Moore (June), greeting card creator Erika Van Veenen (Metro Liquor), painter Amber Jade (Gigi’s), clothing designer Joshua Gauthier (Rodney’s Oyster Bar) and painter/designer Lisa Rose (formerly Carlino Restaurant).

All the featured artists will be on hand to display their artwork, sell selected pieces and talk with attendees about their process and the inspiration behind their work. It’s the latest chapter in an ongoing series of exhibitions that aim to provide a platform for artists who work in the hospitality industry and are organized by Lisa Rose, who formerly worked as a server at Fable restaurant family’s Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand award-winning Fable Kitchen in Kitsilano.

“I have learned from working in restaurants that there is a lot more to the people that guests interact with in dining rooms and kitchens, and so many unique ways that industry people are able to express their creativity,” says Lisa. “For a lot of these artists it can be difficult to find a venue or gallery in Vancouver to display or sell their work, so we’re thrilled to be able to provide a space where they can showcase their creativity and interact with art lovers.”

Fable’s lower-level bar will be open for the duration of the event with alcoholic and zero-proof beverages available for purchase, with guests invited to move upstairs to enjoy small bites, snacks and dinner from the Fable Diner + Bar menu and continue to mingle with artists during and after the event.

“A big thank you goes out to Fable Diner & Bar Owner Ron MacGillivray for generously donating the space to showcase the talented artists in our industry who might not otherwise have a space to showcase their work,” says Lisa, who plans to host a followup exhibition with more artists in the fall at another local restaurant.

Artist Meahgan Kennedy also Invites guests to bring donations of new or gently worn clean pairs of socks to the event to be donated to two local charitable organizations: the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, which provides a safe, non-judgmental environment and supportive surroundings with meals, counselling, advocacy and nurturing programs for self-identifying women from all walks of life who live and/or work in the Downtown Eastside, and YWCA Crabtree Corner — a community and resource centre in the Downtown Eastside that provides transitional housing for expecting and new mothers as well as child care, parenting programs, a community kitchen and programs for self-identified women who have experienced abuse
