Redfish Kids Clothing partners with The Dirty Apron for fundraising dinner
Redfish Kids, The Dirty Apron and Vancouver’s top chefs present a culinary collaboration to celebrate young Cooks with Courage on Thursday October 27th from 6-9.30pm.
Redfish Kids launched its first annual ‘Cook with Courage’ program this summer, in partnership with The Dirty Apron and their Kids & Teen Summer Cooking Camp. Over the summer The Dirty Apron team recognized nine stand-out students who displayed qualities championed at Redfish Kids: passion, integrity, determination, grit, creativity and courage. “We wanted to celebrate the kids who find the courage to take risks, who lead, and who tap into their unlimited potential to shape their future… and ours!” says Redfish Kids founder Kristy Brinkley.
Guests at the ‘Cook with Courage’ evening will enjoy delicious starters created by chefs David Hawksworth (Hawksworth & Nightingale), Nico Schuermans (Chambar), David Robertson (The Dirty Apron), Hamid Salimian (NextJen Gluten Free), made with the help of the nine young Cooks with Courage; followed by dinner prepared by The Dirty Apron chef team and Kids Can Cook, and desserts created by the legendary Thomas Haas. Each chef will work with a group of young cooks, aged 8 to 15, to prepare small plate portions for 50 VIP guests, which will be served directly from the stations, before a sit down four-course feast prepared by The Dirty Apron.
This intimate evening is about celebrating the courage and determination of all children, and raising awareness and funds for The Dirty Apron’s mentorship program with Admiral Seymour Elementary; an inner-city school serving many low-income families facing food insecurity. The Dirty Apron has worked with Admiral Seymour for over three years, organizing and hosting monthly field trips for students.
“All it takes is a little bit of time and a lot of heart to make a significant difference in children’s lives.” says Chef Robertson, The Dirty Apron. “The mentorship program is about planting seeds of hope, using food as the medium to relate and educate.”
Chef Robertson has built community relationships to arrange for kids to have access to the inner workings of the food industry: the Vancouver Canucks, Shangri-La Vancouver, Granville Island Market, Gate Gourmet and Trimpac Meats are just a few of the partners that welcome The Dirty Apron mentorship program group behind the scenes to share knowledge, inspire passion and build confidence. Through fundraising efforts, The Dirty Apron is planning to expand this mentorship program, and open the “kitchen” door to even more children.
Tickets for Cooks with Courage cost $250 and are available at www.dirtyapron.com. The event begins at 6pm with a four-course dinner served at 7.15pm at The Dirty Apron Cooking School, 540 Beatty Street.
Redfish Kids Clothing has two Vancouver flagship locations – 851 Hornby Street and 2474 Marine Drive in Dundarave both open 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 12noon to 5pm on Sundays. Redfish Kids ships worldwide via their online store – www.redfishkids.com.
