BEST OF THE BRUNCH: CAFÉ MEDINA EARNS INAUGURAL BEST BRUNCH ACCOLADE AT 2017 VANCOUVER MAGAZINE RESTAURANT AWARDS

Prestigious Award Reaffirms Restaurant’s Reputation as City’s Leading Brunch Destination

What might be the worst-kept secret among local and visiting diners was confirmed once again last night when Café Medina was singled out for the inaugural Best Brunch award at the 28th annual Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards.

Ever since it first opened in 2008, Café Medina has earned its reputation as the city’s leading brunch destination thanks to its eclectic, Mediterranean-inspired fare, connoisseur-savvy coffee and sweet nourishment via the city’s best Belgian Liège waffles. Though it moved to a new home in Vancouver’s Library District at 780 Richards St. in 2014, Proprietor Robbie Kane successfully migrated the same quaint touches, fine details and old-world charm that made the café a beloved staple of the local restaurant scene in its former Crosstown location.

Referencing the popular restaurant’s first-come, first-served, no-reservations policy, Vancouver Magazine writes in the awards roundup that appears in the publication’s May issue that “we won’t cross the street to see George Clooney save a child from a speeding bus, but for Café Medina’s legendary tagine — we’re happy as a clam to stand in the rain for an hour.”

The popular restaurant is a perennial winner of numerous local dining accolades such as The Georgia Straight’s Golden Plate and Best of Vancouver Awards for Best Brunch and Best Mediterranean, Westender’s Best of The City nods for Best Waffles, Breakfast and Brunch and WHERE To Dine Awards for Best Brunch, and was recently named to the list of The 38 Essential Vancouver Restaurants by Eater.

“This is not only a huge honour for myself and our staff, but a true affirmation of what we have set out to do at Café Medina day in and day out — to feed the soul of each one of our guests by providing them with sustenance in every way, shape and form,” says Kane. “Gratitude is the only word that comes close to capturing how we feel now and every day at Café Medina.”

The Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards are judged by a panel of leading experts and critics, and handed out at a formal award show at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver. A full list of winners from the 2017 edition of the awards is available at www.vanmag.com.
