Wednesday Wine Reviews @Sam_WineTeacher

2012 Carmenere

Primus

Vallee de Colchagua, Chile

$22.49

Garnet red/purple with deep intensity. The nose shows aromas of green pepper, earth, cinnamon, chocolate and dark fruit. Good balance with just a very slight sweet entry. The flavours echo the nose followed by a medium finish.

2015 Chardonnay

Black Hills

Oliver, BC

$34.49

Lemon yellow in colour with medium-minus intensity. The nose shows aromas of baked apple, spice, vanilla and orange blossoms. Well balanced with creamy texture. Well-integrated oak and fruit with flavours of citrus, tangerine and peach followed by a medium-plus finish. This is one of my favourite BC Chardonnays.

2014 Riesling (Silver Mane Block)

Harper’s Trail

Kamloops, BC

$17.29

It is safe to say that BC grows some impressive Riesling in all its diverse wine regions. This example from Kamloops is no exception. Golden yellow colour with medium-minus intensity. Apple and pear on the nose with just a lovely hint of classic ‘petrol’ to give it added complexity. Good balance, clean, crisp and refreshing. Apple, tree fruit, citrus and melon flavours on the palate followed by a medium-plus finish. At only 11.6% ABV, this is an ideal summer thirst quencher. I enjoyed a glass or three with pan fried halibut and curried noodles.

2015 Langhe Rosso

Maretti

Piedmont, Italy

$22.97

Garnet red with medium-deep intensity. Aromas of red fruit, bramble and vanilla on the nose. Good balance with a very slight sweet entry. Red fruit, berries and savoury noes on the palate followed by a medium finish.

2014 Corasco

Tedeschi

San Pietro in Cariano, Italy

$26.99

I was very pleasantly surprised with this wine. Garnet red with deep intensity. The nose is rich with meaty, plum and dark fruit aromas. Very good balance and body. Big in the mouth with flavours of plum, red berries, blueberry, bramble and menthol followed by a medium-plus finish.
