Heaven's Gate 2011 Malbec

2011 Malbec
Heaven’s Gate
Summerland, BC
$25.00
Silver Medal
A great example of a cool climate Malbec. Different from the Argentinian Malbec that most people are familiar with, but very impressive. The colour is garnet black and tinged with purple with deep intensity. An intense nose with layers of blueberry, blackberry, black cherry, ripe plum, dried herbs with subdued tobacco and leather. Well balanced. Packed with flavour with ripe berries dominating the palate. A medium-long finish with lingering vanilla. I’d serve this with charcuterie, salmon or pork tenderloin.

Gew-SV-2013
2010 Gewürztraminer (Elliott Road)
Volcanic Hills
West Kelowna, BC
$19.90
Silver Medal
This has to be one of the best BC Gewurztraminers. Lemon yellow in colour with medium intensity. The nose shows aromas of lime, stone fruit, pink grapefruit and mango. Very well balanced with good mouthfeel. Packed with flavours of peach, apricot and mango that linger on the finish. This was a great accompaniment to a curried chicken casserole.

Moon Curser 2012 Syrah

2012 Syrah
Moon Curser
Osoyoos, BC
$24.90
Silver Medal
A great example of what BC can do with Syrah. Garnet black in colour with deep intensity. The nose is inviting with layers of black berry, raspberry, spice, black pepper and chocolate. Well balanced with soft, smooth ripe tannins. Bright red and black fruit on the palate and a medium-long finish. This was yummy with a ground beef stroganoff.

Blackwood Lane 2008 Cabernet Franc

2008 Cabernet Franc
Blackwood Lane
Langley, BC
$39.29
Gold Medal
A winemaker once told me that Cabernet Franc would be the red that BC would become famous for. With this wine, it is easy to believe this to be true. Garnet red in colour with medium-deep intensity. A layered nose showing aromas of blueberry, earth, red and black currant and a hint of violets. Very well balanced with big smooth ripe tannins. Ripe juicy blue berries, chocolate and vanilla flavours on the palate. Fruit lingers on the finish. Wow! We enjoyed this with herbed Hungarian bread, Capicola, peppered salami, Brie and aged Parmesan.
