Winestains Wine Academy opens its first location in Richmond, BC to teach WSET certified classes starting October 2015. The brand new location, is purpose built for classes, wine and food events, and will offer WSET Level 1 & 2 classes this fall with plans for Level 3 as well as Level 1 & 2 in Mandarin by 2016.
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) was founded in 1969 to provide high quality education and training in wines and spirits. Since then, WSET has grown into the foremost international body in the field of wines and spirits education, with a suite of sought-after qualifications.
Winestains Wine Academy will occupy the second floor at #1070 – 9111 Beckwith Road, Richmond while Richmond Wine Lockers will occupy the first. The WIne Lockers are a dedicated space for safe, proper, wine collection storage for private collectors, restaurants and other businesses. As an event space, the upstairs has kitchen facilities, tasting bar, and can entertain groups from 20 people boardroom style to100 stand up.
Director of Education for Winestains Wine Academy is Keith Nicholson, who is a WSET Certified Instructor. A long time wine industry professional, Keith has run some of BC’s finest wine programs at Le Crocodile Restaurant in Vancouver and the Bearfoot Bistro in Whistler, amongst others. Prior to his WSET education, Keith received his Sommelier Diploma from the International Sommelier Guild in 2005 and his ISG Teaching Certificate in 2009, and has been teaching part-time since then. Keith is also the Director of Communication and PR with the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS). In addition, he is a past scholarship winner for the Society of Wine Educators and won the VIWF Sommelier Challenge in 2009.
Both Winestains Wine Academy and Richmond Wine Lockers are subsidiary ventures of Barry McNabb, owner of Winestains Social Club and Winestains Wine Delivery.
