Jim Wyse, proprietor of the Okanagan’s Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, has been named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Pacific 2015 in the Hospitality and Tourism Category. On September 24th he accepted the award at a regional award banquet held at Vancouver’s Trade and Convention Centre and emceed by Chris Gailus.
The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ awards recognize the contribution of people who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement. Wyse’s vision was to craft world-class wines using environmentally sustainable viticulture and winemaking methods.
“This award is a huge honour,” Wyse comments. “Starting a really unique business is always a big challenge because you need to have faith in yourself, but you also need to have faith that others will recognize the value of what you’re doing. We’re lucky that British Columbians, and now people from around the world, have embraced the idea that making quality wine is good, but making quality wine while working in harmony with nature is even better.”
The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ awards were established over 20 years ago. Nominees include individuals from all areas of business who are at different stages of their entrepreneurial journey, separated by category and region. Independent panels of judges consist of business and community leaders, educators, and past award recipients. Nominees are evaluated on their vision, leadership, innovation, financial success, personal integrity, and work in giving back to their communities.
In Canada, there are five regional award programs. In each region a single category winner is named the overall winner, who goes on to compete to become Canada’s EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™. The Canadian winner will subsequently compete with winners from more than 50 countries for the title EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year™, which will be announced in June 2016.
