Vancouver TheatreSports’™ Grapes of Laugh

Stop and Smell the Rosés at Vancouver TheatreSports’™ Grapes of Laugh, February 25

Question: What do you get when you mix great wine with tasty food, fabulous auction items and live entertainment? Answer: A fundraiser (yawn…).

Now… Question: What do you get, if in addition to the above, you also mix in lots of laughs, roving incognito characters, a lees-reading fortune-teller, improv comedy performances and wine-themed hilarity? Answer: Grapes of Laugh at Vancouver TheatreSports™ (VTSL). Add in MC’s Fred Lee (Vancouver’s ‘Man About Town’) and Howard Blank and you have a laugh-filled, wine-fueled evening that is sure to delight wine snobs and plonk-drinkers alike.

This special evening of improv and wine on Thursday, February 25th supports VTSL’s community outreach and youth programs. It allows VTSL to give regular free performances at Ronald McDonald House and to provide free tickets to organizations such as The Children’s Wish Foundation and Covenant House. It also helps underwrite the cost of VTSL’s province-wide school tours. Last year VTSL visited more than 110 schools and performed to more than 35,000 school children.

“Students got to participate with the performers on stage, give suggestions, ask questions, and laugh their socks off the whole time. They … saw firsthand the timing, spontaneity, mental agility, verbal control, and thoughtful detail that went into crafting a scene out of random suggestions and no prep time. …This experience got me thinking how lucky we are that organizations like VTSL exist and are willing to support our schools.” Ditidaht Community School, Port Alberni.

With the persuasive banter of MCs Lee and Blank, guests have the opportunity to bid on some pretty wonderful auction items such as the Cheap and Cheerful Wine Tasting including a private wine tasting in your home given by wine journalist/blogger Ron Wilson of Cheapandcheerful.ca. An in-demand consultant, Ron will guide you through a tasting of selected whites, rosés, and reds. Along the way he’ll regale you with stories from the wine world and his years as a CBC journalist. The philosophy behind Cheapandcheerful.ca is that anyone can afford good wine – quality is not always indicated by price, and when the evening is over, Ron will leave behind a basket of some of his favourite wines to get your collection started.

Another fabulous auction item includes a Granville Island Staycation. Spend a night in the luxurious Penthouse of The Granville Island Hotel with magnificent views overlooking False Creek and the downtown lights. The package includes breakfast next morning in the award-winning Dockside Restaurant. Staycations don’t get any better than this one.

Event tickets are priced at $50 and are on sale now at vtsl.com.

VTSL sponsor, The Granville Island Hotel, is also offering Grapes guests a very special Grapes night rate of $155 (subject to availability) so that you don’t have to worry about drinking and driving that evening. Check in to the hotel pre-Grapes and walk ‘home’ after the night’s festivities. The next morning, why not pop down to Dockside for breakfast before heading off to home or work. To reserve, call the hotel at 604.683.7373 and mention you’d like the special Vancouver TheatreSports rate when booking your stay for February 25th.
