On February 13, Surrey Hospital & Outpatient Centre Foundation’s inaugural gala, the Bollywood Ball, was held at the Hellenic Centre in Vancouver, BC, in support of the Project Eye initiative to combat blindness. The sold-out event exceeded all expectations, raising more than $1.2 million to equip BC’s newest and most advanced retinal operating room within the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre. This OR, when complete, will be designated as a National Centre of Excellence for Bausch + Lomb.
This year, 4,700 British Columbians will lose their vision due to retinal disease. This expansion and the equipment upgrades funded by the Bollywood Ball will allow for up to 2,000 retinal surgeries per year as well as ongoing research into the cause and prevention of retinal disease.
Hosted by Canadian comedian and actor Ali Hassan, and produced by the Social Concierge, the Bollywood Ball stage featured live musical and dance performances and a live auction.
Maharaj Catering produced an authentic feast and award-winning Vancouver bartender and the Deighton Cup’s cocktail director Alex Black created custom cocktails based on the guests’ choices of exotic herbs and spices from a custom-built Spice Market Cart.
