Tableau Bar Bistro is pleased to announce the appointment of Lead Bartender Alex Black.
A native of Winnipeg, Alex moved to the West Coast in 2010, jumping into BC’s world-class bar community. He worked his way up and through many of Vancouver’s top-tier restaurants and bars, including establishments under the umbrellas of the Donnelly Group, Glowbal Restaurant Group and Hawksworth Restaurant Group.
Alex holds a number of hospitality industry awards and certifications from the International Sommelier Guild (Level I), Beverage Alcohol Resource Group (Advanced Certification), West Indies Rum and Spirit Producers Association (ACR Diploma), Consejo Regulador del Tequila (Level T), Society of Wine Educators (Certified Specialist of Spirits) and Pernod Ricard & École Hôtelière de Lausanne (Maison Graduate).
Now behind the wood in the heart of Coal Harbour, the award-winning extrovert adds a dynamic energy to Tableau’s cool French-meets-West-Coast bistro direction. “I’m really excited to get back behind the bar in a neighbourhood that I love,” Alex says. “Working with a great team and hosting amazing people is what I enjoy most.”
Alex will work alongside Beverage Director JS Dupuis and the bar team to continue providing patrons with world-class experiences. He’ll also be helping to build out the cocktail program by creating both new and classic drinks.
When he’s not behind a bar, Alex spends time as the National Portfolio Ambassador for Sovereign Canada, sits on the Canadian Professional Bartender’s Association board as their Director of Communications, and travels to educate himself on foreign markets. He also shares his accumulated knowledge and experience by presenting seminars for young bartenders across North America.

Brunch: Saturday & Sunday, 10:30am – 2:30pm
Happy Hour: Monday to Sunday, 2:30pm to 5:30pm & 9:30pm till close
