As May commences, Poquitos Comida & Cantina steps full swing into their plans for the final few weeks their doors will be open. With Saturday, May 25th set as the final day of service, the neighbourhood cantina – which has been open as a pop-up style addition to the Fraser x Kingsway community since October – plans to have all the fun with its patrons in their remaining time.
This weekend (May 03 – 05) marks the annual Cinco de Mayo celebrations and Poquitos has weekend specials to keep the party going… $12 buckets of beer, $9 margaritas and $3 tequila all weekend long, as they roll right into Cinco de Mayo celebrations on Sunday! Festivities for the day include Chef Luc offering up a stellar selection of tacos (the one and only time the little restaurant has served the popular dish), live Latin-fusion music with Cumbia Galera, and hot sauce tastings with local favourite Sriracha Revolver from 2pm to 5pm. As the evening unfolds, Bad Hombre takes over the back-of-house with another of their popular Mexican Kitchen takeovers; think ceviche, paellas and all the delicious goodness the local company is renowned for. Reservations are not being taken for Cinco de Mayo, so get there early and stay for the fun.
To kick off their final weekend, the cantina is hosting a House Tasting Menu on Friday, May 24th; with two seatings and a $65 ticket price, Poquitos will be serving up a belly-full of Chef’s favourites from the kitchen, while the bar pours the perfect pairings to compliment. Seatings are 6:30pm and 8:45pm and tickets can be found on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/
The final hurrah will be on Saturday May 25th, with doors open from 3pm until the final guest heads home… Poquitos will be inviting friends new and old to join them in a final evening of Chef Luc’s menu that so many have grown to love and – of course – tequila (and their full menu of cocktails, beer and wine) with the Poquitos family!
It is with love and gratitude for the community that Poquitos prepares to wrap up the pop-up and close its doors for the final time; don’t miss your last opportunities to check out what all the fun is about.
