You’re Gonna Love This Wine!
As bud break nears completion in the vineyard, turning the various hues of brown landscape into all sorts of greens, it is safe to say winter has officially left the Okanagan. The constant hymn of birds chorusing, the dewy fresh sunny mornings and warm afternoon breeze are some of our favourite things about Spring around here, other than wine releases of course! Come see, hear and smell for yourself – plan your visit our Wine Experience Centre to drink in the view, sounds and aromas of the stunning Black Sage Bench.
As we celebrate Spring at Black Hills we’re also reveling in a special release of the one and only first vintage of our very own Pinot Noir. It’s true, the winery known for its big bold full-bodied reds has now produced a single vintage of the luscious earthy varietal known for its finer tannins.
Due to the low tonnage of grapes for the 2017 vintage, this wine will only be available via this email and at our Wine Experience Centre while supplies last.
It wouldn’t be right not to make mention of our other infamous Burgundian style wine as our delicious Chardonnay described by Tony Aspler as a “Beautifully balanced and rich in the mouth, reminiscent of a Pouilly-Fuissé, was given 91 points.
2017 Pinot Noir
The 2017 growing season was tailor made for Pinot Noir. After a late start to the spring, the summer was both warm and dry, allowing the fruit to enter veraison in pristine condition. A cool August and September followed, which allowed the grapes to retain intense fruit aromatics and fresh natural acidity. Due to the slow cool ripening, individual parcels of fruit could be harvested at peak ripeness. Single vintage only! Another one to add to your collection, with bragging rights for having secured this one off unique wine from Black Hills!
This palate pleasing Pinot Noir – which by the way, pairs beautifully with BBQ salmon during grilling season. Did you know? Pinot Noir also works very well slightly chilled as the mercury rises. $39.90

2017 Chardonnay
Crisp lemon and pear aromas are joined by hints of riper fruits, such as pineapple and nectarine. Complimenting these primary fruits are finely integrated hints of meringue and butterscotch, which point to the wines time spent in French oak barrels. This medium-bodied wine shows impressive textural richness, which is well balanced by its refreshing citrus like acidity. Chalky mineral and vanilla flavours add further complexity and round out the long finish. Drinking beautifully now, this wine will develop further layers over the next five years. Pro-tip: Order a couple of extra bottles to stash away in your wine cellar. $29.90
