Take the Road less travelled to Nighthawk Vineyards

Just slightly off the beaten track which is one of the many reasons to drop by Nighthawk Vineyards. On a recent visit we carried on from the winery to Oliver and Osoyoos via the quiet, picturesque back way.

I first was introduced to the wines of Nighthawk, a member of the Okanagan Falls Wineries Association, at the 2018 spring release tasting. The Spring Release Tasting is  held in Vancouver annually in early spring and is a great way to taste the wines from this region. I was so impressed I decided a visit to their winery was in order.

While there here is what I tasted:

2015 Gewürztraminer

With distinct notes of pink grapefruit, pineapple and spice, this exceptional wine is smooth on the mid-palate with a crisp long finish.

This wine was sweet and delicious, with flavours of stone fruits with a lovely finish.

2016 Pinot Noir Rosé

A crisp and liely wine with hints of strawberry, rhubarb, and a kiss of French Oak. Our Pinot Noir Rosé features delicate floral notes and mineralogy, with a textured mouth feel.

Flavours of strawberries but with a bit of a stinky cabbage scent at the beginning.

2017 Chardonnay

Lightly aged in French Oak, our Chardonnay features the aroma and flavours of butterscotch and golden delicious apple, with a smooth and silky finish.

A slight oaky aroma, tart with citrus and apples. Light and fruity.

2015 Pinot Noir

A delicate but complex wine, featuring hints of ripe berries, white pepper, and minerality disinctive to our high-altitude vineyard.

Notes of cheese, pleasant sweet aromas. Tangy and delicious.

2016 Cabernet Franc

Our Cabernet Franc is a flirtatious wine with hints of ripe raspberries, black currant, dark chocolate, tobacco, and vanilla bean. It has subtle fragrant notes with a charming, aromatic elegance, and a soft but structured mouth feel.

Yummy cherries, fruity, less dense than the Pinot Noir.

NATURAL BEAUTY. DISTINCTIVE ELEGANCE. EXCEPTIONAL HAND CRAFTED WINES.

Nighthawk Vineyards is a boutique farm gate winery, overlooking the scenic Green Lake valley above Okanagan Falls. It is truly a magical destination, with a distinctive terroir that contributes to some of the finest grape growing conditions.
