2013 Stall Speed (Meritage)
Made from a blend of Naramata fruit – Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Garnet / black with deep intensity. Dark fruit – raisins, prunes and fresh strawberries, earthy with a faint hint of watermelon. Very good balance with smooth ripe tannins and good structure. Dried, soft fruit, cocoa powder on the palate followed by a medium-plus finish. This wine is big and round and has aged very nicely.
Spierhead (now Spearhead)
Golden yellow with medium-light intensity. Toasty oak, butter, lime, apple and herbs on the nose. Good balance with good mouthfeel. The flavours mirror the nose followed by a medium-plus finish.
2015 Saignée (Rosé)
This rosé is made by ‘bleeding off’ (saignée in French) juice from red grapes before too much colour is imparted from the skins. This helps to make the resulting red wine (Hypothesis in this case) better by reducing the liquid to skin ratio, thus concentrating the wine. Cherry red in colour with medium intensity. Aromas of strawberries, fresh cream and cherries greet the nose. Good balance with smooth, silky texture. The flavours echo the nose, followed by a medium-plus finish.
Clos du Soleil
This very affordable blend is made up of all five Bordeaux varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Dark garnet red in colour with medium-deep intensity. The nose is inviting with aromas of red and black fruit, earth, red berries, sweet spice and vanilla. Well balanced with silky smooth soft tannins. Lots of bright fruit on the palate followed by a medium-long finish. This wine opened, evolved and showed it’s best after a day or two. Great value.
Delicate cherry red colour with medium-light intensity. Wild strawberries, red cherries and a hint of orange zest on the nose. Well balanced with a creamy texture. Bright cherries, wild strawberries and cream on the palate followed by a medium-plus finish.
