What originally began as an outrageous dream achieved the unthinkable last year when CheckMate Artisanal Winery was awarded a perfect 100-point score for our 2015 Little Pawn Chardonnay. Now, I am proud, and humbled, to share the news that we have been awarded a second 100-point score for the 2016 vintage of Little Pawn Chardonnay, the first Canadian winery ever to earn perfect scores across two consecutive vintages.
As only 7 barrels of 2016 Little Pawn Chardonnay were crafted, this wine will only be made available to CheckMate Wine Club Members in our Spring Shipment. The Spring Shipment contains several member exclusive pre-releases including 2016 Knight’s Challenge, Fool’s Mate and Attack Chardonnays, as well as 2016 End Game and Silent Bishop Merlots.

2016 Capture Chardonnay
The natural ferment contributes a lifted, aromatic and complex nose. The palate opens with apple blossom, mandarin, honeycomb, spice and creamy stone fruits yet remains delicate with a long finish of sea salt and graphite.

2016 Queen Taken Chardonnay
This wine has essences of citrus peel and white peach, pear and wet stone, combined with delicate floral notes. The palate has generous fruit flavours of peach, nectarine and apricot, layered mid-palate richness and focused acidity, providing a long, textured, mineral finish.

2016 Queen’s Advantage Chardonnay
Deep, rocky soils and old, gnarly vines (planted in the early 1970’s) combine to create a wine with an intense bouquet of honeysuckle and stone fruits. The palate explodes in the mouth, being round and fleshy, yet silky all at the same time with hints of butterscotch, marmalade, butter and barrel spice.

An elegant nose of blackcurrant and black fruits with creamy undertones and floral notes. The palate is charming with a rich entry giving way dark, ripe fruits an supple tannins.
