Delve into the nuanced aroma of The Woods Spirit Co. Cascadian Gin, where the essence of hand-foraged pine, moss, and delicate botanicals intertwine, evoking the artistry of a Pacific Northwestern bouquet.

The marriage of woodsy flora and craft spirits is making waves into a wonderful new era for The Woods Spirit Co. distillery in North Vancouver. It is now owned by entrepreneur Celia Chiang, who formerly ran two successful florist businesses. “I’ve always been curious about the wine and spirits industry,” says Chiang, who holds an Executive MBA from Simon Fraser University. “I stumbled upon The Woods Spirit Co. and fell in love with everything about it: the amazing products, the passionate staff, and its beautiful location in North Vancouver.”

The Woods Bar fronts a distillery with unique production methods that make its spirits burst with fresh botanical and floral notes. “The complex art and use of vacuum distillation is a technique that sets us apart from other distilleries in Canada,” says Chiang. Head distiller Andy Davidson remains a cornerstone of the team, with plans for innovative new offerings already underway. A spritz-perfect Arancello liqueur is poised to join the distillery’s acclaimed Cascadia Amaro, Amaro Chiaro, and Limoncello. Davidson’s team is also preparing to fill barrels with grain spirits, marking the inception of an exciting whisky-maturation program. “We are committed to offering cocktail workshops, hosting events, tours, and tastings, ensuring the distillery remains an accessible and inclusive space for all,” adds Chiang.

Chiang is enthusiastic about infusing her cultural background, professional acumen, and unique feminine perspective into an industry traditionally dominated by men. “My upbringing as a Chinese woman has instilled in me a drive to challenge norms,” says Chiang, a science graduate and seasoned entrepreneur who has accomplished adventurous feats such as hiking to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Chiang envisions establishing The Woods Spirit Co. as a thriving family enterprise that can leave a legacy to pass on; one of her daughters is already actively involved in the operational aspects of the business.

As a co-founder of Shop Local Port Moody, Celia is a believer in the power of small businesses to drive economic activity and vibrant thriving communities. Chiang is a North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce member and looks forward to partnering and collaborating with local partners and the community. Chiang says, “I deeply admire businesses that prioritize social responsibility, champion environmental causes, and share a common goal of prosperity for all.”

While she looks forward to innovating and evolving at the distillery, Chiang confirms what will stay the same: The Woods Spirit Co. will continue to make BC craft spirits that are “meticulously crafted with precision, flavours, quality, and a touch of love,” she says.
