Perelada will organize the first Mediterranean Wines Symposium

The centenary winery will host the first Mediterranean Wines Symposium on the 24th of March of 2025, alongside wineries from the main wine regions bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

This event aims to highlight the quality of Mediterranean wines and contribute to the dissemination within the sector, with a strong focus on research and training.

Perelada will host the first Mediterranean Wines Symposium on the 24th of March of 2025, at its winery, alongside various wineries from the main wine regions involved. The congress will serve to highlight the importance of the Mediterranean Sea and the work carried out by the wineries in the regions bordering this sea.

Seven top-level experts make up the advisory committee that has developed a unique program of tastings and exclusive content, with the aim of showcasing the Mediterranean, its successful model, and its cultural, historical, and gastronomic wealth. Juancho Asenjo, a member of the International Wine Academy and Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella by the Italian Republic for his promotion of Italian wine, leads the committee, which includes Josep Roca (sommelier at the renowned Celler de Can Roca), Yiannis Karakasis (Master of Wine, Greece), Gabriele Gorelli(Master of Wine, Italy), Gaston Hochar (General Manager of Château Musar Winery, Lebanon), Maria Snoussi (Professor at the Faculty of Sciences, Mohamed V University, Morocco), and Delfí Sanahuja (Director of Oenology at Perelada).

The event will bring together major wineries from the Mediterranean basin to showcase the importance and winemaking identity of the wines produced around the Mediterranean Sea as a single region, emphasizing their origin and advocating for the world to recognize the quality and tradition of these wines.

The Perelada Castle will host most of the activities that will include tastings, wine and food experiences, round tables, and the large showroom featuring various Mediterranean wineries.

The congress will feature presentations covering various topics. It will not overlook the challenge of climate change, with the participation of Nathalie Ollat, a researcher at the French National Institute for Agricultural Research and director of LACCAVE (the French project that studied the adaptation of vineyards to climate change).

There will also be a focus on gastronomy, with Josep Roca delivering a masterclass on fine dining and Mediterranean wines; on history, with Gaston Hochar, who will explain the evolution of wine in different Mediterranean civilizations; and on external perceptions, with David Allen MW, Wine Director of Wine-Searcher, who will discuss how Mediterranean wines are perceived and the challenges they face.

Regarding the tastings, Rafel Sabadí, sommelier and manager of Uain Concept, will narrate the history of the wines from Empordà with a selection of references from the region. Toni Gerez, maître and sommelier at the Castell Perelada restaurant, will offer a wine and food experience through Mediterranean cheeses and wines. Juancho Asenjo will take participants on a journey along the Mediterranean coasts through the Malvasia grape. Meanwhile, Victoria Ordóñez, owner of the Málaga-based winery of the same name, will lead a tasting of the most prominent varieties from the Mediterranean basin. Two of the committee members, Gabriele Gorelli MWand Yiannis Karakasis MW, will offer a masterclass on the key wine regions of their respective countries, Italy and Greece. Additionally, Perelada will host a grand tasting to celebrate this first edition at their venue.

Alongside these activities, in the showroom, Perelada will be joined by various wineries from different Mediterranean countries: 4Kilos, Casa Gran de Siurana, Gutiérrez de la Vega, and Victoria Ordóñez from Spain; Artemis Karamolegos, Lyrarakis, Mikra Thira, and Troupis Winery from Greece; Masseria Li Veli, Petra, Planeta, and San Salvatore 1988 from Italy; Château du Pibarnon and Mas Amiel from France; Domaine Vicomte De Noue Marinic (Slovenia), Château Musar (Lebanon), Château Roslane (Morocco), Corvus (Turkey), Vouni Panayia (Cyprus), and Zlatan Otok (Croatia).
