Dine Out Vancouver Festival at Kaya Malay Bistro #dovf

 

Last night I was fortunate to have the opportunity, along with some other media, to preview the Dine Out Vancouver Festival menu at Kaya Malay Bistro. I’ve eaten here before and have always enjoyed the experience. This is a casual spot where I always feel comfortable and welcome. Kaya Malay is offering a Dine Out dinner choice, lunch choice and a Vegetarian lunch and dinner option.

The food is not just tasty here but perfectly fresh and innovative. I must confess I have not been a big curry fan in the past but I am gradually educating my palette to enjoy the many variations of this combination of spices. Once I got past the idea that curry was not a single, yellow spice like my mother used and understood the delicate nuances of this mixture of many tastes and aromas I began to enjoy “curry” as an enhancement. I particularly liked that at Kaya Malay I can choose between more than one curry sauce offering. I really enjoyed the first sampling of Roti (a Malaysian pancake or crepe) with two curry sauces served on the side.

In order to facilitate our review everyone was served a sampling size of each dish. It would be hard to choose just one that stood out as all were well prepared, delicious and attractively presented. For me the favourites were the Tofu Goreng, this one surprised me because I didn’t know tofu could taste so yummy. The Scallops and Prawns were perfectly cooked and the mango added a nice balance. I would not like to have to choose between the Roasted Side Ribs and the Singapore Crispy Chicken, these were standouts for me and I would definitely order them again.
