Wine stores are full of wines with colorful labels and kitchy names. Often its a cover-up for a less than satisfying experience when you drink the contents. Here’s a wine that won’t win any awards for its label but is getting plenty of love for the quality of their red blend. Yecla Castano Solanera is the latest in a series of terrific Spanish wines that over deliver for the price. While $22.00 is not a cheap wine what I found was a red that tastes as good as wines I’ve had that were much more expensive. Right from the get-go this blend of Monastrell (Mourvedre), Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha (Grenache) won me over with its intense flavours of cherries and blackberries. Its full bodied, smooth and simply put…a terrific wine. I enjoyed it with beef kabob and rice pilaf but I think this is a great food wine with many of your favorite dishes.
Price: $22.00

Thanks Ron, I’ll have to give it a try.
