BC WINERIES GET TOP MARKS FROM JANCIS ROBINSON’S PURPLE PAGES

Le Vieux Pin Winery has just received top marks from well respected wine critics in London, UK – Jancis Robinson MW and Richard Hemming, Prospective MW. The 2013 Syrah Cuvée Violette and library re-release 2010 Equinoxe Syrah were among the highest scores and rave reviews of the 150 wines tasted from wineries across Canada.

“BC wines tend to be much more dramatic and emphatic than their Ontario counterparts.” Noted Jancis Robinson MW & Richard Hemming

This past May, London hosted a ‘Canada Calling’ Media tradeshow at the Canada House in Trafalgar Square to showcase Canadian wines to top masters of wine and critics. Their Winemaker and Viticulturist: Mrs. Severine Pinte represented Le Vieux Pin Winery. She was also invited by Master Sommelier John Szabo to speak as a panelist about the climate and terroir of B.C wines.

“2013 Cuvée Violette Syrah – Bright and peppery, smooth black fruit. Crackles with energy – a triumph of Syrah. Fragrant, precise, flavoursome.“ – Richard Hemming

“2010 Equinoxe Syrah – Dense, concentrated, vivid. Robust structure with loads of fragrant, peppery spice. Clearly a premium wine, though it is not objectively better than their Violette.” – Richard Hemming

Jancis and Richard are known to be very tough critics with their scores. So this is a huge compliment to Severine and her team. Out of 150 plus wines tasted from Canada, 62 received scores of 15/20 and better. Le Vieux Pin’s 2013 Syrah Cuvée Violette and 2010 Equinoxe Syrah scored 17. Only one wine scored higher in this comprehensive tasting, the LaStella Maestoso “solo” Merlot 2011 (Le Vieux Pin’s sister winery in Osoyoos, which Severine Pinte is also the winemaker).

For the past 30 years there have been two people who are regarded as the most influential International wine critics: Jancis Robinson from the UK and Robert Parker from the USA. In Recent years, Jancis has been building a stronger reputation and gaining more followers in North America due to her discipline and consumer advocacy.
