New craft cocktails offer a hint of what’s to come within the refreshed, rustic-chic space at Nita Lake Lodge
On May 13, 2017, Nita Lake Lodge will unveil the re-designed Cure Lounge, continuing to anchor the award-winning property’s position at the helm of luxury Canadian resorts.
Working with its unparalleled surroundings as Whistler’s only lakeside lodge, Cure Lounge’s refreshed look, with modern flairs found throughout, will nod to the natural ruggedness of B.C.’s west coast. Recently awarded as the winners of The Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices, Vancouver-based husband and wife duo Scott & Scott architects worked alongside interior designer Carolyn Scholz to refresh the lounge. With Scott & Scott’s stripped-back focus on Canadiana-cabin style and Scholz’ subtle and modern vision for the open-concept space, their combined approach perfectly captures the serenity of Nita Lake in a fresh, contemporary design that speaks to the Canadian mountain lodge it sits in.
The new space will blend softened tones of white and grey that allow the Douglas-fir faced columns to stand-out; the native wood of the West Coast ties in the colors of alpine living. A rustic wooden bar face, and silver fox granite bar top will complement the large and iconic fireplace, contrasted by a red feature wall to create a bold, yet inviting space. Natural oak tables, splashes of bold color throughout and a simplistic approach to the furniture and millwork will help maintain a sense of space, with the combination of stone, wood and modern features speaking to the urban-rustic concept found throughout the food & drink offerings.
“The re-launch is the perfect occasion to revamp the cocktail menu,” explains Cure’s Bar Manager, Rhiannon Csordas. “It also comes at a great time of year as spring and early summer provides a new season of flavours to play with in creating the fresh list.”
The refreshed menu will encompass four fresh inspired themes, each with its own list of inventive libations to satisfy a realm of tastes. The first cocktail theme, ‘From the Garden’ features bright and fruit-forward cocktails using produce from Nita’s own rooftop garden, including freshly picked strawberries muddled with gin, lemon and peppercorn for an added kick in the ‘Refresh’ cocktail.
The ‘Smoke & Spice on Ice’ cocktail theme will satisfy bolder palates with stronger flavors from smoky mezcals, spiced rums and other unique elements such as muddled ginger and cayenne. The ‘Modernist’ theme will apply a range of modern cocktail techniques for distinct takes on cocktail classics, from the ‘Smoked Sazerac’ using smoke-infused ice to ‘Hemmingway’s Daughter’; inspired by the Hemmingway Daiquiri.
Lastly, Csordas’s ‘Around the World’ theme will carry guests through time and space; from white sand beaches with the ‘Blue Hawaii’ to a 19th century New Orleans in the ‘Ramoz Gin Fizz’, all from the incomparable comfort of the lakeside oasis that awaits at Nita Lake Lodge.
