La Glace Ice Cream Steals Hearts with Cool Parisian Charm

Vancouver’s Westside Revels as La Glace Ice Cream Officially Opens

La Glace, je t’aime. What started as a casual flirtation with a charming little ice cream cart has blossomed into serious dessert love as Vancouver’s hearts melt over the city’s newest ice cream parlour and salon de thé. “All things are better when shared with someone cherished” is the La Glace mantra that adorns the front window in gold lettering. It captures the ethos at the heart of pastry chef Mark Tagulao’s now-realized dream of opening a space in which friends, family, and loved ones could relish in sweet fairytale indulgence. La Glace officially opens, scooping up French-style ice cream in the heart of Vancouver’s West Side.

“I’ve been making ice cream since I was a little kid,” says Tagulao, founder and culinary director of La Glace. “Ice cream is connected to every childhood celebration that I can remember.”

La Glace ice cream is rich and luxurious, made in the French method with cream, egg yolks, and sugar using minimal aeration. Time-honoured flavours such as Ganache made with dark Valrhona chocolate and Crème de la Crème infused with fragrant vanilla bean are mainstays, while tempting limited-time offerings may include Bananes Foster (roasted banana rum cream, toffee, and cinnamon); Matcha Noir (green tea with a black sesame swirl); and Café à la Lavande (coffee with a hint of lavender). Tagulao focused on creating this same creamy texture when developing the three vegan flavours made with house-made cashew milk or coconut milk: Chocolat à la Menthe (mint cream and dark chocolate flecks); Chocohuète (peanut butter and dark chocolate; and Coco Pandan (pandan-infused coconut cream). Visitors delight in choosing decadent in-house pastry and confection toppings for their personalized creations served in cups or cones.

Scoops are priced at $5.50 for one, $7.50 for two, and $8.50 for three. Upgrade from a standard wafer cone to a house-made waffle cone based on Tagulao’s family recipe for $1.50.

La Glace Ice Cream is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm and is centrally located at 2785 West 16th Avenue.
