We reached out to the BC wineries that we have promoted in the past, either as Our #FavouriteThings during our winter holiday promotion or for our Celebration! Romance! and Passion! valentine promotions.
The response from our readers for these promotions was positive and so with that encouraging starting point we came up with a plan we call #shiptosip

2018 McWATTERS COLLECTION CHARDONNAY
VINTAGE REPORT A cool, late winter brought bud break a little later than usual. Once the plants woke up, a warm wet spring had the vineyards looking great. We had an amazing summer with hot dry weather from July to September. It cooled down a little bit going into the fall allowing us a long hang time to achieve full ripeness. All in all, a great year for the Okanagan. Harvest date: September 24, 2018
THIS WINE Rich and elegant with notes of pineapple, hints of honey, lemon zest and buttered toast, with a lingering dry finish.
FOR YOU Enjoy with poultry, seafood, pork and rich creamed pastas, but best when shared with friends (new and old). Ready to drink, but will continue to age gracefully at least through to 2022.
FROM US The 2018 McWatters Chardonnay is 100% chardonnay from the Phantom Creek/Becker Vineyard in Oliver, barrel fermented in 25 % new French oak barrels, which included one 450 L Francois Frère puncheon. This was followed by six months of aging in oak barriques and full Malolactic fermentation.

Harry McWatters launched his namesake wine brand in 2011 with a red Meritage blend and Chardonnay. These wines are the two pillars of the McWatters Collection, crafted from premium grapes grown in the south Okanagan Valley. Since inception, production has been and will remain at fewer than 1,000 cases per year. We hand select premium grapes and use French oak barrels to age our wines. Luscious and textured, each wine is structured to cellar for years to come.

It’s a story that develops through the growing season and past harvest, continuing to the barrel and into the bottle.
