2015 Attack Chardonnay. Attack is an expressive fruit and mineral-driven ultra premium Chardonnay from the heart of the Okanagan Valley. A textbook example of textured mineral-focused Chardonnay with an abundance of orchard fruit and spice, all presented in an elegant style with exquisite balance – these are becoming the hallmarks of CheckMate’s brand. Tasting Attack immediately you notice how versatile this masterpiece is, making it fantastic to pair with a wide range of dishes from ceviche to creamy pasta, and like a fine Champagne, Attack is ideally suited for celebrating life’s milestones too. Tasted May 2020.
2015 End Game Merlot. This might be considered as the winery’s top-tier Merlot, as it blends the best barrels from Osoyoos East Bench and the Black Sage Bench sites. It’s dark, rich and deeply fruited in tones of blackberries and black cherries. The ripe, silky tannins are particularly exceptional, which cloak the fruit without disrupting it. Coffee, licorice, dark chocolate and a seam of tar complete the experience. June/July 2020 Issue.
Today we bring you two great recipes from our friends at the Calgary Petroleum Club. Chef Sean Cutler and his team enjoy the privilege of pairing dishes with wines from their 15,000 bottle cellar, including our CheckMate Merlots and Chardonnays. Chef Sean has included two recipes, Grilled Albacore Tuna with Spiced Cabbage Slaw paired with our Attack Chardonnay and a Traditional Alberta Beef Prime Rib Roast with Yorkshire Pudding paired with our End Game Merlot.
