2020 Estate Pinot Gris

New Release

Blend
100% Pinot Gris

Tasting Notes
Rich flavours of orchard fruit, lots of pear and green apple. A hint of spice, with a round finish.

North meets south in this ripe and bright 50/50 blend. First, the South Okanagan Valley’s arid, desert-like landscapes deliver grapes with rich, round, generous flavours. In contrast, the North Okanagan’s cooler temperatures and high elevation yield fresh and bright notes of green apple with a delicate balance of acidity. The finished blend of these two contrasting regions celebrates the uniqueness of both places. As you sip, you’ll experience the taste of the entire Okanagan Valley coming to life.

2020 Estate Rosé

The Pinot Noir for this wine is grown expressly for Rosé, which means it is picked earlier than it would be if it was destined for our Pinot Noir. This earlier picking results in more finesse and elegance in the wine. After being harvested, the grapes were destemmed and put in the press where they had two hours of skin contact before being pressed off. Fermentation was 100% stainless steel to allow for a fresh, crisp finished wine.

Vintage

Average Okanagan spring temperatures began the 2020 growing season with periods unusually cold and wet weather. Colder periods progressed into the early spring contributing to a marginal fruit set, but as the season progressed into the summer months we regained our highly celebrated Okanagan conditions. The dry, warm and hot summer produced good growth permitting all varieties to ripen with excellent balance and incredible flavor intensity.

Tasting Notes

Notes of pink grapefruit and strawberry cream dominate on the nose. The palate is fresh, light and vibrant, with those same strawberry notes lingering long on the palate.

2019 Estate Pinot Noir

Blend
100% Pinot Noir

All the grapes for this wine come from four separate blocks within our Home Block Vineyard, each farmed differently and harvested as much as three weeks apart. This is now the second year of farming Home Block organically and the results show in the bottle. In true Pinot form, this wine is light and delicate, though has a riper fruit profile due to the warmer vintage. It is made in a truly low-intervention style: natural fermentation, natural malolactic fermentation, unfined and unfiltered.

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes
Cherry, blackberry, and savoury herbs on the palate, with hints of violet on the on finish.

Vineyard Notes
Above average growing degree days in the spring contributed to an early budbreak. Cooler days and evenings arrived in August, which slowed down the ripening of the grapes and allowed for greater flavour development while retaining freshness and acidity.

Food Pairing Notes
Rustic root vegetables, grilled meats (especially pork, chicken, venison), fuller-bodied seafood.

2019 Estate Chardonnay

Deep beneath the earth, the decades-long story of this Chardonnay takes shape. Roots stretch far and wide, buffering against drought, rain, and occasional cold. In this hot and dry valley, the knotted trunks and twisted arms faithfully deliver exceptional consistency and quality fruit vintage after vintage.

2019 Platinum Block 3 Riesling Organic *

“Above the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake, our Home Block Vineyard has a tiny section that features seams of two distinct soil types. This variability allows for Riesling grapes to grow with unique, intense flavour concentration. I hand select the bunches for this wine in the vineyard, which I then ferment very slowly with organic yeast. The result is a fresh, vibrant Riesling that is truly delicious.” – Taylor Whelan, Winemaker

Tasting Notes
Lime zest, wet stone, white nectarine, dried apricot and lemon blossom. Textural complexity with beautiful acidity that lingers.

Organics at CedarCreek

During the 2019 Harvest, we completed our first audit with Ecocert and we are pleased to announce that our Home Block Vineyard and CedarCreek Winery have been officially certified organic. We believe whole-heartedly that caring for the land means thinking sustainably and farming organically. By eliminating all weed sprays and insecticides, and depending mainly on canopy work and careful attention in the vineyard, our soil is coming alive and our ecosystem is thriving. The results of this work is also reflected in the dynamic and high-quality wines we are able to produce.

“Organic farming doesn’t mean we’re hands off. In fact, we have to work harder but the end result is worth the investment.” —Kurt, Senior Viticulturist at CedarCreek.

This transition to organic continues to influence our philosophies and practices in the vineyard and winery. Chickens, bees, worms, and cover crops are just a handful of the sustainable projects we are working to implement to create a dynamic and vibrant ecosystem.

“The way we farm with organics creates a demand for the the vines to drive their roots deeper,” says Kurt, Senior Viticulturist at CedarCreek. “This deepening of the root structure creates change as the vines explore below ground and that’s reflected in the canopies just slowing down and coming a bit more into balance.”
