VSO Announces Iconic Conductor Tan Dun to Lead Martial Arts Symphony Show Crouching Tiger & Beyond on Saturday, Nov. 9

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is pleased to present iconic Chinese conductor Tan Dun in Crouching Tiger & Beyond — a groundbreaking show that combines the brilliance of a live orchestra with iconic footage from the legendary martial arts films Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero, and The Banquet on Friday, November 9 at the Orpheum.

VSO Presents the Music of Dvořák, Barber and Berio, featuring Five-Time Grammy Award-Winning Soprano Dawn Upshaw on October 18-20 at The Orpheum.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is pleased to present Tausk Conducts Dvořák’s New World Symphony, a concert of folk songs and music from the New World featuring five-time Grammy award-winning soprano Dawn Upshaw, on October 18, 19, and 20 at 8:00PM at The Orpheum. 

This weekend: Symphony at Sunset, free concert at Sunset Beach Park, July 7

This year’s concert will be conducted by Music Director Otto Tausk and includes repertoire that has something for everyone — from classical favourites to film score hits including the Love Theme from Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet.

VSO Conductor Laureate Kazuyoshi Akiyama returns with Violin Virtuoso Mayuko Kamio

Enroll in a violin masterclass presented by Japanese violinist Mayuko Kamio. The gold medalist of the 2007 International Tchaikovsky Competition, is widely praised for her luxurious silken tone, long expressive phrasing and virtuoso techniques. The New York Times has called Ms. Kamio an “exciting young musician” and “a radiant talent.”
