2014 Splash

River Stone

This wine is a blend of Viognier, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer which all bring something to the glass. The wine is pale straw in colour with medium-light intensity. The nose is fruit forward with aromas of tree fruit, stone fruit wet stones and a hint of spice. Good balance and the hint of residual sugar gives it body. The flavours echo the nose followed by a medium finish.

2013 Moksha

This is a blend of 58% Syrah, 13% Viognier, 11% Malbec, 9% Grenache and 9% Mouvedre. The name means ‘inner peace, liberation or release’. The wine is garnet red in colour with medium-deep intensity. It has a well-integrated nose of red and black fruit, sweet spice, earth and a hint of chocolate. Well balanced with smooth ripe tannins. Pleasing fruit flavours that follow the nose. A medium finish. This wine paired well with balsamic and garlic pork tenderloin.

 

2013 Red Mountain (red blend)

Moraine

Garnet red with medium-deep intensity. The nose shows aromas of cherries, plums, currants, spice and smoke. Good balance with medium body. Bright red fruit and earthy notes on the palate followed by a medium finish. A blend of 40% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 30% Malbec. Pair with pulled pork of BBQ’d ribs.

 

2012 Syrah (Reserva)

Falernia

Valle de Elqui, Chile

Garnet red with deep intensity. Ripe plum, black pepper, dark fruit and chocolate on the nose. Good balance with good body. The flavours echo the nose. Followed by a medium-plus finish with lingering fruit.

 

2014 Pinot Noir

Garnet red in colour with medium-minus intensity. Cherry and floral with earthy undertones. Good body and structure with medium body. Bright red fruit on the palate with a raspberry note that adds to the nose. A medium-plus finish.   Serve with Roast herbed chicken, salmon or duck.

Sam, The Wine Teacher, has been an educator, a home winemaker, a wine judge for too many years to count and is the former Guild Master of the BC Guild of Wine Judges.

He has offered wine education and appreciation courses for Pacific Breeze Winery, Capilano College, Eden West fine foods, the Richmond School District Continuing Education department, the VAWA, the BCAWA as well as for various private functions. He also trains staff and offers cellar evaluations.
