2019 #FavouriteThings Holiday Gift Suggestions – Township 7

Here are a pair of wines worth putting on your list for wine lovers. Viognier is a sophisticated wine and makes a wonderful gift for the most fastidious hostess. You will be a big hit! For the host with the most I would go with the Merlot. You are going to have some happy people who are the recipients of Township 7 wines.

Two of our #FavouriteThings Holiday Gift Suggestions from Township 7 an award winning winery.

2018 Viognier – Raju Vineyard

The aroma of the 2018 single vineyard Viognier is reminiscent of fresh peaches, passionfruit and honeysuckle. The palate is full of fruit flavor but dry with a clean crisp finish. Perfect to pair with your favourite shellfish or soft robust cheeses.

Our 100% Viognier is from Raju Vineyard in Osoyoos. The warm site allows for full ripeness of this Rhone variety which enhances the fruit forward aromatics and palate. The Viognier was fermented in stainless steel tanks and 3 barrels to add texture to the palate. It was fermented at 16C to allow for some roundness to be incorporated into the finished wine.

2017 Merlot

This Merlot is supple with red cherry and ripe plum tempered with spicy aromas of tobacco leaves, cocoa and vanilla. The combination of terroirs adds complexity along with barrel aging to soften tannins. Perfect to pair with a medium rare, Alberta Beef Prime Rib served with a demi glaze and roasted potatoes.

This vintage was primarily crafted with Merlot from the North Oliver Bench’s Blue Terrace Vineyard and Front Yard Vineyard in Naramata. In Oliver the rich, gravel-strewn soils provide a foundation for superior grape quality. The grapes from Front Yard Vineyard on the Naramata Bench add complexity and dimension to the blend. Two to three weeks of maceration time which included a hand plunging regime of three times a day has resulted in wine with rich fruit extraction and satisfying tannins. Aged in American and French barrels for 18 months add caramel and vanilla notes which mellow the mouthfeel.

Township 7 Vineyards and Winery

Langley
In 2001 – this is where it all started – in the 7th Township of Langley. While some things have changed, like signage and our new cellar style tasting room, our principles and focus have not: we are just about making quality wine and nothing else.

Off the highway and “Metro Vancouver adjacent”, our Fraser Valley winery is set in a lush agricultural landscape, surrounded by green vistas and the occasional trot by of an equine explorer. Grape growing? Yes. Explore your inner wine geek without leaving the Lower Mainland and get to know this gem that has bubbly ambitions.

Penticton / Naramata Bench
Our Langley winery was where it all started, but this is where it all happens! The story of our Okanagan winery might start with a tasting in our wine shop, and a friendly conversation over a few sips as you learn about our history on the Bench. It then might lead to an invitation to join clubSEVEN and access special wines not on our shop shelves, or a plan to return for an event with friends and fellow BC wine explorers.

We really are a working winery and there will be no mistaking that fact when you come and visit. Whether we are picking, crushing, pressing, bottling or just plain labeling there is always that unmistakable smell of earthy winey goodness in the air. Take a look around back and you are very likely to see our winemaker Mary McDermott at work. Go ahead ask her a question, she doesn’t bite.

Tasting notes, bottle shots and image courtesy of the winery. I received a complimentary bottle of each wine to facilitate this feature. All opinions are my own.
