If you haven’t visited Blue Grouse in picturesque Cowichan Valley you really need to do so this year. Blue Grouse Estate is comprised of 65 acres tucked away on a sunny Vancouver Island slope in the Cowichan Valley, named from a Salishan First Nations word meaning “the warm land”.
The warm, dry summers and mild, moist winters make the Cowichan Valley Canada’s only “cool” maritime Mediterranean climate. The Valley records sufficient growing ‘degree days’ during the Spring and Summer which provides good conditions for many vitis vinifera grape varietals that bud late and ripen early. The influence of global warming appears to be influencing the ripening prospects for grape growing, but varietal and site selection, combined with our vineyard management practices, remain critical to our success.

2019 Estate Bacchus
100% Bacchus
A Blue Grouse favourite…with its dazzling aromas of peaches and white blossoms. Bacchus is named after the Roman God of wine and exhibits subtle notes of pear and baked apple.
This rare island treat pairs well with fresh goat cheese, risotto primavera or a poem.
2019 Quill Q White
Schönburger 35% I Pinot Gris 26% | Gewürztraminer 22% | Siegerrebe 17%
A food-friendly Vancouver Island blend, this lovely wine exhibits notes of orange blossom, peach, and lemon zest.
Unpretentious, this easy-going wine wants to be loved with seafood or on its own.
2019 Quill Q Red
Merlot 75% | Cabernet Franc 11.5% | Marechal Foch 13.5%
This robust red wine exhibits aromas of caramel, black cherry, and licorice with rich cocoa and cloves on the finish.
Crank up the BBQ and pair this wine with grilled steak, ribs or lamb burgers.
Our Philosophy
The Blue Grouse Estate Winery’s philosophy evolves from the concept of “stewardship”, where our aim is to make everything we touch better when we leave it, than it was when we found it. We apply this to training our team of employees, the environment that hosts our vineyard and home, the vines we grow, the wines we make, the infrastructure which supports the winery and vineyard, and the economics of our business model – everything.
