Wednesday Wine Reviews from Sam Hauck aka @Sam_WineTeacher

2017 Chardonnay
McWatters Collection
Penticton, BC
$24.99
Lemon yellow with medium-light intensity.  Pineapple. Butter, toast and citrus aromas on the nose.  Well balanced.  Well-integrated oak and fruit on the palate with flavours of lemon butter, oak, tropical fruit, citrus zest and honey on the palate followed by a medium-plus finish.

2018 Gamay Rosé *
Haywire
Summerland, BC
$22.90
What could be more perfect to celebrate spring and the arrival of warmer weather than a lovely glass of rosé?  This one is cherry red in colour with medium-minus intensity.  Strawberry and cherry on the nose.  Well balanced.  Strawberries and cream on the palate followed by a medium-long finish.  Cheers!

2006 Malbec
Weinert
Mendoza, Argentina
$30.99
How wonderful to discover a thirteen-year-old red wine being offered at my local wine store?  Better yet, the grapes come from 70-100-year-old vines.  Garnet/black in colour with deep intensity.  The nose is rich and layered with aromas of dark dried fruit, leather, tar, soy, tobacco and cocoa.  Well balanced.  The flavours mirror the nose followed by a medium-long finish.  Great value.

2016 Alibi
Black Hills
Oliver, BC
$28.75
A blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon.  Lemon-yellow in colour with medium-minus intensity.  Lemon, apple, pear and vanilla on the nose.  Very good balance with good mouthfeel.  The flavours reflect the nose followed by a medium-plus finish.

2009 Stiletto
The View
Kelowna, BC
$20.00
This is a fortified Tawny port-styled after-dinner wine made from Rainier cherries.  Tawny coloured with medium-intensity.  The nose is inviting with aromas of canned cherries, almonds and pear.  Good balance with silky texture.  The flavours follow the nose.  Fruit lingers on the finish.  Who needs dessert?
