BEAUJOLAIS BEYOND NOUVEAU
WORLD WINE SYNERGY BRINGS ‘BEAUJONOMIE’ TO BC WITH TWO REMARKABLE DINNERS
6pm, November 27, 2022, at Nightingale, Vancouver
6pm, November 29, 2022, at The Courtney Room, Victoria
Beaujolais’ star is on the rise—again. While for many years Beaujolais was synonymous with Beaujolais Nouveau, more wine-lovers are discovering the excitement of historic Beaujolais and its 12 appellations. World Wine Synergy is at the fore of introducing BC consumers to Beaujolais through three unique and spectacular tastings that underscore the calibre of Beaujolais—as well its penchant for flexible food pairing.
A recent ‘Lunch & Learn’ WWSI comprehensive masterclass ‘Beaujolais Nouveau… you know?’ took place at Burnaby’s renowned Hart House Restaurant. The seminar featured all 12 appellations of Beaujolais (18 wines in total) as well as a rare opportunity to taste the 10 Crus side by side. The event was guided by wine authority Iain Philip. The crus—produced by boutique producers using environmentally friendly farming, organic, and biodynamic methods—truly allowed the terroir to show its strength and character.
Wine authority Dr. John Volpe agrees that “the opportunity to sample and compare all twelve Beaujolais appellations was an unparalleled learning opportunity. Further, the afternoon was exceptional in that it so successfully conveyed the exciting renaissance of the ‘new/nouveau’ Beaujolais. In the days since the event, I have found myself recalibrating my perception of Beaujolais wines and am excited to share the many insights gained with students and colleagues.”
“Beaujolais is a region I am deeply excited about,” says educator Iain Philip. “It is an ancient wine growing area, but one that is very dynamic and forward thinking in its current generation. Beaujolais has always been unpretentious and approachable…but that doesn’t mean the wines aren’t serious and complex.”
“Even though the region focuses primarily on Gamay,” he continues, “there is immense diversity in the styles produced. From exuberantly festive Beaujolais Nouveau, through the expressive purity of the Beaujolais-Villages wines, to the exceptional capturing of terroir of the 10 Crus, there is a wine for everyone!”
Upcoming immediately, World Wine Synergy is delighted to offer two remarkable dinners—in Vancouver and Victoria—that also highlight the region as well as celebrate the spirit of ‘Beaujonomie.’ Each is led by one of these highly respected authorities.
The term ‘Beaujonomie’—evolved from ‘bistronomy’—describes the more casual trend that now defines fine dining. Beaujonomie embraces the idea of good food and wine being complementary and enjoyable but above all accessible—the notion of sharing food and wine with friends and lively conversation.
‘Beaujonomie’ – Nightingale, Vancouver, Nov 27th.
An exquisite Chef’s Table dinner highlighting diverse flavours such as wild mushroom, rosemary and fontina polenta salad, roasted Angus ribeye with creamed kale and Bordelaise sauce, and roasted pork belly—all paired with a cross section of 9 villages and cru wines including Chiroubles, Fleurie, Côte de Brouilly, Saint-Amour and Morgon (as well as some surprises!) all introduced by Iain Philip. Only 18 seats available. Don’t wait to book now! Contact Kristie Or at 604-318-3840 for more info.
‘Beaujonomie’ – The Courtney Room, Victoria, Nov 29th.
