You can’t judge a book by its cover and I often can’t judge a wine from the first taste. That was certainly my experience with Mendocino County Babble. I liked the aroma from the get go but initially I tasted a lot of vanilla. I wasn’t expecting that from a blend that included Syrah and Zinfandel. I thought I’d taste spice and pepper. But the more time spent in the glass, the better the taste. Plums and chocolate and a hint of tobacco. Medium to full bodied with a long smooth finish. This wine was originally produced for Trader Joe’s and I won’t break your heart by telling you what it sells for in the United States. What I will say is that the winemakers have put a lot of time and effort to deliver a wine that is deep and full of flavour and worthy of my CheapandCheerful mantra…great wines at a great price. I would serve this wine with charcuterie or any roast meat dish.
