It’s a fact – Vancouver loves Happy Hours. Since the laws changed a couple of years ago, Happy Hour specials have proliferated amongst the city’s restaurants and lounges. Most happen in the late afternoon, like Provence Marinaside’s very popular Tappy Hour (from 3 – 5 p.m daily). A few places have ‘after hours’ such as TWB-The Wine Bar that offers Tappy Hour specials every night from 10 p.m. to closing.
Now Provence Marinaside is about to up the Happy Hour stakes with the introduction of ‘J’ai Mal Aux Cheveux’ – meaning ‘I have a hair problem’ or ‘it’s a bad hair day.’ Simply put, it’s a Breakfast Happy Hour. So if you’ve woken up with bad hair, or feel the need for some ‘hair of the dog that bit you,’ drop by Provence Marinaside any Monday to Friday from 9 – 11 a.m. for special breakfast cocktails available with a breakfast order for only $6.
For instance, you can indulge in one of Provence’s Specialty Coffees with your order of Belgian Sugar Waffles or French Toasted Baguette. There are four variations on the coffee theme:
• Traditional Irish Coffee (coffee, Jameson Irish Whiskey, raw sugar)
• Dominican Coffee (coffee, Brugal Anejo Rum, White Crème de Cacao, whipped cream)
• Canadian Coffee (coffee, Spicebox Whisky, maple syrup, whipped cream)
• Pick Me Up (Bailey’s Irish Cream and espresso over ice)
Any of Provence’s Juicy Cocktails (Salty Dog, Cape Cod, Tequila Sunrise and Red Eye) would complement the Breakfast Menu’s many versions of omelettes or eggs benny. If you are a fan of Bloody Caesar/Mary type cocktails, then you will fall in love with the Dirty Gin (Brokers Gin spiked with olive brine, topped with a skewer of house smoked trout and olives) and the Cowboy (Russian Standard Vodka kicked up with a shot of pickle juice, a peppered bacon rim, garnished with a spicy smoked pepperoni stick and pickle spear). Either would go nicely with Provence’s Chorizo Scramble or Two Eggs Any Style.
In addition to the new Breakfast Happy Hour specials, Provence also serves 10 different types of Mimosa – all starting with Montelvini Prosecco as a base and also priced at only $6 from 9 – 11:30 a.m. (they revert to regular price after 11:30). If you are feeling adventuresome and want to taste something a little different from the Traditional Mimosa (prosecco and orange juice), you might want to try Provence’s Orchard Kiss (prosecco, Elephant Island Apricot, apple juice). Perhaps the Cherry Bomb (prosecco, Okanagan Spirits Cherry Liqueur, cranberry juice) is more to your liking or the aptly named Morning Glory (prosecco, orange juice, Elephant Island Cassis) gets your day off to a bright start.
J’ai Mal Aux Cheveux (Breakfast Happy Hour) launches at Provence Marinaside on Monday, September 18 and will be available from 9 -11 a.m. every Monday through Friday. Mornings just got a lot happier.
