This event serves not only to celebrate Chinese New Year in Parker Place, but also as a milestone of Chinese Canadian history in Richmond. Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Parker Place for letting us give back to all those who made it possible to preserve authentic Chinese culture in Canada. This mall provides a space which allows people to both reconnect with their origins and to give others a sense of what these local ethnicities can offer to the larger myriad of Canadian culture.

With this painting, we wanted to emphasize this connection between the modern and the traditional that Parker Place represents. We envisioned the panels as a window into the past, incorporating an imagined space in ancient China into the existing structure of the food court to pay tribute to the hardworking, supportive community of Richmond.
