Let’s help the hospitality industry with Coolshanagh Wines

How Can We Help the Hospitality Industry?

With so much affecting the hospitality industry and workers at this time, Skip and Judy Stothert of Coolshanagh on the Naramata Bench wanted to help by making a contribution. With this in mind…

Coolshanagh is donating $10 for every case sold in BC to the BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) from now until the end of June.

The BCHF is a charity that raises funds to support those in the hospitality industry facing financial crisis due to a health condition. Each year hundreds of hospitality workers across BC face financial challenges and have no where else to turn. The BCHF helps them when all other options have been exhausted.

Unfortunately, because of the COVID-19 crisis the fundraising events the BCHF relies heavily on have been cancelled.

Please support the BCHF by purchasing Coolshanagh wines, distinctive and delicious BC Pinot and Chardonnay.

ABOUT COOLSHANAGH

Coolshanagh proprietors Skip and Judy Stothert take advantage of the carbonate-rich Naramata soil to produce fruit-driven, highly mineral wine inspired by classic Burgundy crus. For several years, Coolshanagh supplied other wineries with grapes, but today, they produce their own, distinctly Naramata estate, small batchChardonnay and Pinot Noir wines.

BC Hospitality Beneficiaries

One of the individuals the BCHF has helped is Jocelyn Kaleka.

Jocelyn was on a brief vacation on Salt Spring Island when her life changed irrevocably. On June 14, 2018 she was hit head-on by a truck while riding a scooter. She was airlifted to Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria with multiple broken bones, including both legs, her pelvis, and her lower back. Doctors thought she would never walk again, but thanks to 3 surgeries, intensive rehab, and unstoppable determination, she was on her feet with the aid of a cane only 6 months after her accident.

Her injuries occurred just after Jocelyn had left her bartending position at the Cactus Club, and was about to start a new server position at Pepinos Spaghetti House. As a consequence, she was left without income or extended medical benefits. Due to her limited mobility, she had to sublet her Vancouver apartment and move to a friend’s ground-floor place in Nanaimo. She currently does administrative work at a Vancouver restaurant, and has just returned to serving again. This new step back into the ‘front of house’ makes her very happy.

Jocelyn considers herself a career hospitality worker. She loves the people she engages with every day and is an inspiration to everyone who meets her. The grant from the BCHF has given Jocelyn a bit of financial breathing room as she continues to work on recovering her good health.

Since January 1, 2020 the BCHF has helped 8 workers with over $25,500 in total.
