Les Vins du Médoc the Heart of Bordeaux’s Revival

My takeaways from the Wines of Médoc webinar Médoc, the Heart of Bordeaux’s Revival.

The seminar was not only informative it was very interesting and included a number of visuals explaining the area of Médoc, it’s characteristics, terroir, growing conditions and history.

Following the seminar each participant received a gift card to purchase wine of their choice from Médoc. Before you continue on to the visuals here are the two wines that I chose. There were not as many choices as I would have liked so I did some more exploring online for private wine shops for at least one more bottle of wine from Médoc to try.

MEDOC – CHATEAU LA GORCE 2015

This property is situated north of Saint-Estèphe, close to the banks of the Gironde Estuary; it produces a classic Médoc of great richness and depth. The aromas are perfumed and attractive, with concentrated cassis fruit and sweet spice. This is a full-bodied, supple wine, with a gentle texture, good structure, and a long, vibrant finish.

Bordeaux Blend is Full-Bodied & Robust. Examples of great pairings: Grilled Steak, Roast Beef, Rack of Lamb, Lamb Shank, Osso Bucco, Sharp Cheddar

LISTRAC – CHATEAU CLARKE 2015

93 Points, James Suckling: “Extreme nose of crushed raspberries and minerals. Full body, with very integrated tannins and a fresh clean finish. Lasts for minutes. Very well done. Better in 2016.”

Bordeaux Blend is Full-Bodied & Robust. Examples of great pairings: Grilled Steak, Roast Beef, Rack of Lamb, Lamb Shank, Osso Bucco, Sharp Cheddar

My online exploration revealed the following wine stores and their stock of Médoc wines:

Everything Wine list of Médoc wines here.

Marquis Wine Cellars list of Médoc wines here.

The Gull Liquor Store list of Médoc wines here.

BC Liquor Store Médoc wines available on the floor here. Available in the specialty section of the BC Liquor Store here.

From the recommendations of our MyVanCity.ca wine reviewer Sam Hauck here.

When you go shopping for wines from Médoc keep these 8 appellations in mind:

Médoc

Haut-Médoc

Moulis-en-Médoc

Saint-Estèphe

Saint-Julien

Listrac-Médoc

Margaux

Pauillac

Although the seminar ended with this video I think you will find it interesting as an introduction to the wines of Médoc. Enjoy…
