National Pinot Grigio Day | May 17th

It’s National Pinot Grigio Day!

A favourite varietal of mine I embrace this day with joy and anticipation. Here are three wines sent to me to celebrate National Pinot Grigio Day. I will take awhile to taste each wine before adding my review to MyVanCity.ca. In the meantime these good value wines are currently available at BC Liquor Stores throughout the province and at the LCBO in Ontario.

Sun Goddess Pinot Grigio Ramato

Produced with love and passion from sun-kissed vineyards owned by Fantinel family in Friuli Venezia Giulia, where the peculiar microclimate and the precious terroir guarantee premium quality wines.

Fascinating with its natural blush color, intriguing with its powerful bouquet, delightfully crisp and refreshing: the original Pinot Grigio.

The bouquet is intense and complex, with hints peach, melon and blackberries. On the palate it is full-bodied and velvety, with a pleasant acidity, sweet tannins and a finish rich in mineral sensations. The skins’ pink hue give the wines color from a semi-pale pink to dark orange.

Pinot Gris / Pinot Grigio is Vibrant & Fruity

Examples of great pairings: Seafood Salad, Smoked Salmon, Oysters, Pasta with Cream or Mushroom Sauce, Baked White Fish in Butter Sauce, Soft-ripened cheese, Chicken Sandwich, Prawns, Scallops.

Flat Roof Manor Pinot Grigio

VINEYARDS
The fruit was sourced from vineyards across the Western Cape. The viticulturist works hand-in-hand with the grape growers in managing each vineyard block to ensure the best quality fruit for this wine. The different microclimates and soil types associated with each vineyard add to the complexity of the wine.

WINEMAKING
The grapes were harvested at 22 ̊ to 23 ̊ Balling during February. After crushing, the juice was drained immediately to minimise colour extraction. Following clarification, the free run juice was fermented in stainless-steel tanks at 15 ̊C for a period of three weeks. A certain amount of residual sugar was allowed in this off-dry wine.

Grown on rocky hillside soils in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. Attractive floral, quince, yellow melon, pear and citrus aromas, followed after a first sip by crisp fresh quince, melon and citrus flavours. The finish is lively and clean. Serve with grilled fish, seafood or salads.

Two Oceans Pinot Grigio

An elegant, slightly fuller style of wine, packed with fesh fruit aromas of yellow apple and fresh limes, tied together by a zesty acidity. Easily enjoyed on its own or as a great accompaniment to mussels, French fries and simple and light style curry dishes.

Clear and pale straw in colour this refreshing pinot grigio offers aromas of nuts, cantaloupe, and pear; the palate is light to medium bodied with balanced medium acidity and fresh flavours of melon and pear followed by a minerally, citric finish.
