I always have at least one Blue Grouse Quill in my wine fridge, or at least I try to, it can be hard to keep without drinking it. The Quill wines are my “go to” wines when we get unexpected company and I want to introduce them to the delightful Vancouver Island wines. Some people are surprised that Vancouver Island has such noteworthy wineries. I tell them they need to get out more! Explore the Island because there is lots to offer. Cowichan Valley is beautiful and a great place to visit.
Even if you haven’t been to the Blue Grouse winery yet, and you should go, you will enjoy these wines we are personally recommending for your holiday gift giving.
2016 Quill Pinot Noir
100% Pinot Noir
This wine starts on the nose with red plum, toffee and raspberries that are followed by warm spices, cedar and a toasty juicy finish in the mouth.
A perfect companion to wild sockeye salmon or hearty pasta dishes.
2016 Quill Red
Cabernet Franc | Merlot | Marechal Foch
This robust red wine was aged in barrels for 12 months. Aromas of vanilla, coffee and blackberry with rich cocoa and pepper on the finish.
Crank up the BBQ and pair this wine with grilled steak, ribs or lamb burgers.
2014 Paul Sparkling
Müller-Thurgau | Ortega | Pinot Auxerrois | Riesling
This sparkle starts with aromas of pear, biscuit and a bit of earthy mushroom followed by flavors of green apple and toast with a fine mousse on the palate. Well balanced and off-dry it finishes with elderflower and a lingering lemon-lime citrus.
