TasteAdvisor launches new app for BC wine

When you walk into a wine store, there could be hundreds or even thousands of options to choose from – so where do you start? A new Kelowna-based company called TasteAdvisor has an app that can help narrow down those choices by making personalized recommendations of wine based on your individual preferences. The app works similar to other recommendation tools like Spotify, which creates customized playlists of music just for you. This means with a flick of your finger; you can see the profile of wines that have been curated just for you!

Another unique aspect of the app is that it contains only B.C. wines, so you can find a local wine that matches your preferences. British Columbia has 360 wineries spread over several different regions and grows over 80 different types of wine grapes that are produced using numerous different wine styles. This means there really is a B.C. wine for everyone; you just need to find the right one! This regionally focused app has a database of over 3000 of these wines and is able to connect Tasters with the local wines they are most likely to enjoy.

The response to this dynamic tool from the B.C. wine industry has been overwhelmingly positive.  Erin Korpisto from Stag’s Hollow Winery & Vineyard believes the app could be a game changer: “The BC wine industry is looking forward to a tool like this that not only raises the profile of BC wine, but will also connect wine drinkers with everything our community has to offer, including personalized recommendations.”

The searchable database of wines also helps Tasters find wine that may fit a specific occasion or style. Interested in visiting wineries that donate their tasting fees to charity, are dog friendly, have a restaurant, or offer accommodations? How about finding a natural, organic, or vegan wine? Once you find the wineries and wines you want to try based on the criteria that is important to you – create a customized wine route and share it with your friends so you can go tasting together and rate the wines you try.

“The wine information gathered for the TasteAdvisor app is VERY detailed… we expect that this app will be the go-to wine app very soon.” – Bruno Kelle and Stella Schmidt, Castoro de Oro Estate Winery.

One of the best features of the app is the ability to keep track of all the wines you have tried or would like to try in a personal cellar. You can leave the notebook at home and enter in all your notes right in the app to be reviewed later or shared with your contacts. You can also create a collection of wines like “Wines I want for birthday” or “Wines to bring to a dinner party” so that you never lose track. “They’ve got a seriously cool app that is your go-to for all things B.C. Wine. I can’t wait to start using it to track all of my favourite wines and places I plan to visit.” – Lauren Selfridge, Dirty Laundry Vineyard.

The B.C. wine industry has so many unique experiences and events to offer and the app will help you find the ones you will enjoy. For example, TasteAdvisor will be present at the B.C. Pinot Noir Celebration on August 17th. Attendees will be able to view a collection of all the wines present at the event and keep track of the wines they have tried, rate each one, and add the ones they like into their personal cellar.

TasteAdvisor is available for download in both the App Store and Google Play on July 30th so you can #TasteWhatYouLike. Follow along for more information at:
